Today, we are happy to announce exciting updates coming to the web version of Outlook in Office 365. We are rolling out an improved user interface and new features to help you stay on top of your inbox and manage your calendar. Formerly known as the Outlook Web App (or OWA for short), our browser-based Outlook experience will now simply be referred to as “Outlook on the web.”
With Project Server 2013 and Project Online, we replaced our server-side scheduling engine with the Project Calculation Service (PCS), bringing the power of the Project Professional scheduling engine to the browser. To continue unifying our scheduling and extensibility platforms, the legacy server-side scheduling engine will be fully removed from Project Server 2016 and Project Online, along with the Project class methods of the PSI. Office 365, the world’s most popular productivity solution, has been integrated with popular educational open source software such as Moodle and Open edX. Office’s open REST APIs make it possible for teachers and students to take advantage of Office’s rich authoring capabilities to create content, submit assignments, provide feedback, and manage class schedules, all within a single sign-on (SSO) experience enabled by Azure Active Directory.

With today’s update, Outlook now uses Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL)-based authentication for Exchange Online mailboxes in Office 365, replacing the previously used basic authentication method. This new authentication method enables IT administrators to configure new access scenarios for sign in to Office 365 and to better control and manage Outlook on mobile devices in their organization.
