  1. What’s needed is a better Math Writing Tool.
More features of LaTeX (Numbering of equations, more styles, etc…).

It would be great to just have LaTeX Object.

    • I second that!
LaTeX is the best tool for writing scientific papers.
We need a LaTeX interpreter in Office365

The existing Formulae in Word et al. are just horrible (and hard to use).

  2. What do I need to check or do if I’m not getting the new CLass Notebook ribbon when opening a Class Notebook I have admin privileges to? My Microsoft Update says “no updates needed at this time.” Do I need to download a manual update somewhere?

    • Hi Randy,

What version of OneNote Mac do you have? Please make sure you are on version 15.23 or later. (You can see your version number by clicking on “OneNote” in the top left of your screen next to “File”, and select “About OneNote”.) Let me know if that works for you.

    • Hi Amders, Class Notebook Tools for Mac OneNote 2016 is already build in to the product so no download extra bits needed. When you operate on a Class Notebook using Mac OneNote 2016 as a teacher role, the tool will be automatically show up in Ribbon.

We are fixing the link problem for #2. Thanks for reporting.

      • So How do we create a class notebook? Is there a way to make the ribbon tab appear manually? I dont have a class notebook already, I am trying to experiment with it before I suggest it to my school.

      • Hi Fanguang,
I’m not sure I should do it here, but I’n like to contribute reporting a bug in OneNote 15.23 update, that you may be aware of: Option+left arrow (or right) no longer move cursor one word left (or right).

Please note that this bug is also on the 15.23 update FRENCH VERSION FOR MAC

It is very and permanently troublesome for all of us used to writing with microsoft products : Word, OneNote, Powerpoint, IE…etc., where this shortcut is used by reflex.

I hope an update will patch it quickly.

By the way, I’m using OneNote (for Win then both Win & Mac) as my basic worktool since its first release (2001 I guess) and I like to ask for the RETURN of a functionality that as VANISHED with the Mac version:
the left (or right) margin listing the notes can NO LONGER BEEN HIDDEN (unlike with the online and Win versions).
This is very inconvenient because it reduces the size of the note space to write. It is especially troublesome when one want to have another app. window (say Word or IE) opened beside OneNote window in order to copy content or link form one to the other, which is precisely one of the functionalities OneNote team is proud of.

All in all, OneNote Mac’s functionalities are still a bit of a step back for an old OneNote Win user.

        Best regards

      • The link in your reply works for me, but the link in the blog post above gives me an error message in Swedish:

“Det går inte att hitta den sida du letar efter.
Du kanske har klickat på en gammal länk eller så har sidan kanske flyttats.”

In translation : The page you are looking for cannot be found. You may have clicked an old link or the page may have been moved.

Apparently, its looking for a Swedish version of the user guide.

        • Interesting, thanks for pointing that out! We will get it updated.

  3. This update seemed to have introduced a major bug with the cursor. You can no longer move the cursor one word to the left or right using the [option]+[left/right arrow] keyboard shortcut (as documented here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/OneNote-for-Mac-keyboard-shortcuts-20fa1619-0f1c-4f83-a3cc-41e12b366f2f#tblID0EABGAAA). This is very frustrating, because it’s the most frequent keyboard shortcut I use.

Has anybody received my bug report on this? Are the developers even aware they introduced this bug in OneNote for Mac version 15.23 (160611)?

    • Hi James, this is Fanguang from OneNote team, your feedback and bug report has been well received, we are working on the fix, will release it with recent updates as soon as we can. Sorry about the inconvenience, we apologize to it.

      • OUI, MOI AUSSI
Same bug with OneNote 15.23 update FRANCAIS (FOR MAC) :
Option+left arrow (or right) no longer move cursor one word left (or right).

It is very and permanently troublesome for all of us used to writing with microsoft products : Word, OneNote, Powerpoint, IE…etc., where this shortcut is used by reflex.

What is the link to report this bug to MS ONeNote team, so that they fix it quickly ?

        Olivier

  4. Same question as Brian. So How do we create a class notebook? Is there a way to make the ribbon tab appear manually? I dont have a class notebook already, I am trying to experiment with it before I suggest it to my school.

Also, if students have chrome books, will class notebook work fine?

    • Hi Alemar,

To create a ClassNotebook, you will need to sign in with your Office 365 account from your school to get started. Details can be found here: https://www.onenote.com/classnotebook

Once you open a ClassNotebook from Mac OneNote and operate on it, the Class Notebook Tool tab will automatically show up.

Class Notebook can be accessed on Chrome books through OneNote Online and it will work fine.

      Thanks,
      Fanguang
