Today marks Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Project Server 2016, an important milestone in the delivery of our on-premises project and portfolio management (PPM) solution. A trial download of the RTM is available here. Everything we learned from running our cloud service at scale in Office 365 contributed towards improving the reliability, scalability and performance of Project Server 2016.

This release comes along with the SharePoint Server 2016 RTM release announcement. The Project Server 2016 installer is fully integrated into SharePoint 2016—a separate installer no longer needs to be run on each server in the farm.

Learn more in the Project Server 2016 TechNet documentation. Project Server 2016 will be generally available in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center in early May.

We are pleased to continue the series of project and portfolio management value we have been delivering through our cloud service as well as the recently released Project 2016 client. As a team, we are continuously improving our products and services. We welcome any feedback through our forums, UserVoice and social channels.

  1. No product key for Project Server 2016? The download link only gives a trial key for SharePoint. But this is not valid to enable the Project Server features

    • The one from the pre-release should still work Christoph – so this can be used with the following PowerShell command to active Project Server features:

      Enable-ProjectServerLicense -Key Y2WC2-K7NFX-KWCVC-T4Q8P-4RG9W.

      Best regards,

      Brian.

  2. Does anyone run into an issue ‘An error occurred while getting information about the user … at server …: Access is denied’, trying to create a new farm with the RTM version?

  3. Hi, I have a development server (2012r2) running Sharepoint 2013 and Project Server 2013. Is there an upgrade path with this setup? And if so, is there a clear doc that would help me get there. Thx!
