Hi Shawn, Thanks for the update! The video in your blog shows - for just a short moment - a glimpse of the SPC14 announced Compliance Center. Since it should ship Q3 (Astrid McClean, SPC14) I am wondering why it is left out of the tables in the new update scheme (which is very useful, but unfortunate incomplete on this matter).

@digitalfuel Well on WIn 8.1 you can preview and index all your files, photos and folders stored on OneDrive from the Windows Explorer without necessary synchronizing them locally. You can choose by right-clicking on a file or a folder to make them available offline or online only if you want. they are just here for you to see what you have . much more granualr control than on other OS or with another service that only syncs.

You can have 3TB on OneDrive and only a SSD of 256 Go in your machine and still be able to view everything that you have

Increasing the limit to 1GB is great but if we can sync 1TB then onedrive will cache approx. 1TB of data + 1GB of storage now I need 2TB drive to store 1TB of Data. With the default cache in system drive then I now need a 1+TB System drive to store 1TB of data. Can you explain as this does not seem logical or very manageable for most people who may only have one drive.

So, no new update today, and the launch of OneNote using the pen seems to be working properly... most of the time... but only after an initial sign-in from restart. Here's its behavior now:

1. One-click from restart lockscreen, screen on --- launches sign-in.... Hmmmm.
2. One-click from restart lockscreen, screen off --- launches turning on the screen.... Hmmmm.
3. One-click from any active screen directly following sign-in from restart --- sometimes launches OneNote Desktop.... Seems to work consistently after about 6-10 seconds from sign-in. Hmmmmm.

After an initially sign-in from restart and about 6 seconds:

1. One-click from lockscreen, screen off --- launches OneNote Modern... But I sometimes get caught at the lockscreen and I can't enter a PIN --- password works. Hmmmm.
2. One-click from sleep, screen off --- launches OneNote Modern. No problem.
3. One-click from lockscreen, screen on --- launches OneNote Modern. No problem.
4. One-click from sleep, screen on --- launches OneNote Modern. No problem.
5. One-click from any active screen --- launches OneNote Desktop. No problem.
6. Two-clicks from any active screen --- launches OneNote snip-it tool to One Note Desktop. No problem.

great post and video. Microsoft's Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) team is already doing Records Management in the cloud today. I'm proud to say my company is part of that effort. I'm glad Microsoft is continuing to innovate around Controls and Compliance Efforts. I'm also glad Microsoft continues to work with partners and to make it possible for partners to extend and enhance the framework to add functionality that helps insure customers data is protected ... whether it's on-premise or in the cloud.

On Microsoft.com there is great case study showing how Microsoft LCA, Gimmal and Iron Mountain worked together to create Records Management in the Cloud. Here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/casestudies/Case_Study_Detail.aspx?CaseStudyID=710000003382

I was thinking at the same thing, some day ago. With my wife we usually manage shopping list with onenote, it is really great!
The only "strange" thing is that in order to have a productive tool, we need to use check list in opposite way than normal. We have a list of many things, and we check what one of us should buy. Doing so we uncheck when the items will be bought.
So we do not have to rewrite every time what we should buy, we simply put the check on the list.

Hey - I can vouch for how brilliant OneNote is for students - I've been using it exclusively for all my note taking needs throughout a Biomedical Science and Medical degree! One thing I still find frustrating though is the inability to take a photo from my Surface Pro 2 or Asus Vivotab 8 and insert it directly through OneNote 2013 - something which funnily enough OneNote MX can do! Of course I could switch to MX, take the pic, then migrate back and wait for it to sync, but that's a major disruption to workflow and of course means you miss out on things your lecturer has said! Overall, a great product with some odd omissions.

same questiong about the OneDrive for Business sync.. limited to 5,000.
can you please let us know if it's going to change soon?
under question is about the connection with Map Drive.
i know it's possible to connect the OneDrive Library document to a Map drive but there is a lot of error and Disconnection with the customer then they should do the connection again(login, Sharepoint and Explorer).
can you please check for application(OneDrive) can do the connection automaticlly when the computer starting.

Thanks!

Cool news! Hope it will come soon now. First reports about it (1 TB) are already 2 month old.
Two questions:
1. OneDrive for Business - sync is limited to 5.000 (document library) or 20.000 (personal ODfB) items. So how could the 1 TB be used in practice? To split all the topics in own libraries?
2. Automatic upload to OneDrive is support very often. Upload to ODfB nearly nowhere. Not any picture app from the smartphone or tablet, except of MS Office I don't no any app supporting this. Are there no APIs around? Or what are the plans to push this forward.

Without item limits and no app support 1 TB still sounds great, but can't be used for the most things in a daily work life (except office collaboration). Not to misunderstand - it's GREAT, but what is the whole concept behind for the user?

Thanks for your feedback. We are considering some of those features but it would be useful for us if you could provide a little more context to ensure that we really meet the need. Which part of the business would you be sharing the reports with? Other IT professionals? Management? Are you looking for ways to select a few tables to make a report?

Office 365 roadmap is intended for Office 365 for business customers. Office 365 Home, Personal, and University provide the Office applications for consumers home and personal use. Office 365 for business provides additional capabilities such as enterprise grade email, document sharing and collaboration through OneDrive for Business, and Lync Online for web conferencing. These businesses rely on Office 365 and so we want to provide upcoming updates to make sure they can prepare for any changes that might impact their business. For our consumer offerings we usually find it is better to wait until something is available so people can go and use the feature right away and not create confusion about upcoming updates that are not yet available for someone to use. We still do announce some big changes a head of time, like today (June 23rd) we announced the OneDrive for Office 365 Home, Personal, and University subscribers will be getting 1 TB of storage (increased from 20 GB) coming sometime in July.

we need to be able to easily share/distribute these reports to people that do not have 0365 Admin permissions. This could be done by creating new Roles for Report viewing or providing a mechanism to publish these to a SharePoint site or by providing files that could be sent via email.

Unfortunately, the OneNote launch from the lockscreen is not working since the last update (as of 6/23/14, 9 am EST, I have all available Windows and OneNote updates installed). I assume this will be fixed in the next update since it is a BIG selling point. The launch from sleep mode does work, just not if it has timed out to a lockscreen. I am using OneNote Desktop as my default OneNote application. If the Pro 3 is completely "awake" and unlocked, one pen click launches OneNote Desktop. From the sleep mode, it launches OneNote Modern quicknotes with no page lines and a completely blank white background.

I would LOVE to change the default background/template for the quicknotes launch from sleep/lockscreen to a lined yellow background (to replace all my legal pads). *Fingers Crossed* for next update!

I have been horrified by the outages of Sharepoint. Since Thursday we have not been able to sign into our Sharepoint Online sites.

This has really shaken my confidence in MS365 when I am still in the very early phases of migrating our company onto the platform.

I sincerely hope that Microsoft does not fall prey to the temptation to roll out changes in the commercial environment before they have been adequately tested and proven.

(PS: I have not even been able to Log Service Requests !!!)

OneNote has been my single favourite piece of software for more than a decade. And it just gets better and better!

A couple of minor gripes though:
1. when a user created template is set as the default for a section, clicking on "add page" generates the new page correctly in OneNote 2013, but *not* in the OneNote app nor on the phone.
On the app, a placeholder for any background images is shown with a little red cross;
On the phone, more seriously, the page will not open at all
This problem has been known for many years - for pity's sake, someone fix this small bug.

2. I like the open new page option with the click of the pen top but, when locked, the page created has no template and uses a default (fine) pen. I think it is good that erase and other functions are disabled (the machine is still "locked" but couldn't the new page use the template of the most recently used section or page created?

3. You rightly highlight the fact that you can rest your palm on the "page" while writing and OneNote will not confuse this as a gesture - this is excellent...however....when using in portrait mode, the windows button on the Surface is right under your wrist - OneNote magically disappeared several times before I realized what was happening and now I have to use portrait mode, somewhat counter intuitively, "upside down" - turned clockwise from the normal position not anti-clockwise. This strikes me as (for Microsoft) uncommonly poor UX decision.
