Find online images for Office 2010 with ease

You may have noticed that our web site, Office.com, has had a lovely facelift to support the refreshed Office 2010. When you are in a document in Office 2010, and you are also online, it’s much easier to search for images from our online collection than it has ever been.

Here’s why.

First, you have three options for viewing your initial results. Click on the gray box icons at the top of the page and you can choose to view your results as either small, medium or large thumbnails:

The default setting of smallest previews offers the most images per page.

Choosing the small image option will show more results on the page.

Increasing the size of the previews to medium makes them easier to view.

The medium option shows fewer images, but they are easier to see.

Choosing the largest preview option shows the fewest images but is the best for viewing them clearly.

The large image option shows the fewest images per page, but offers even better previews for easy selection.

When you choose an image, you will be taken to the download page with an even larger preview:

The download page has a larger preview and offers a "See Similar Images" option.

Second, we have made it much easier to find additional images that match your search. Simply click on the “See Similar Images” link at the top of the page and our site will offer up a collage of similar images:

The "See Similar Images" option provides a collage of images you can easily scroll through.

See that little button at the top? That’s a scroll bar which enables you to easily scroll through the results. Click on an image you like and you will be taken to the download page.

Personally, I love this new design. We have greatly expanded our collection of images by partnering with terrific image services such as iStockPhoto, Veer Images and fotolia, and having a way to view the images more clearly and easily seems to open up a whole new world.

What do you think?

  • I was unable to find the software download trial for Infopath. I called and talked to one of your representatives and was still un able to find what I needed. Every time I found what I thought was the free trial download it would open a window with everything else but Infopath and honestly I became very frustrated for at home I have it and created an important document for work and when I went to present it  to my boss I was un able to open it and my assignment was looked down upon for I looked like a fool when I could not open the file. Thanks a lot.

  • Heather, InfoPath is not one of the programs included in our free trial. You can see what's available for free trial here:

Only Office Home & Student, or Office Professional.

  • I am sorry to say that I really do not like the new images website.   I miss the old clipart search.  I have many bookmarks for certain styles that I liked.  I can no longer find Style 1368, one of my favorites.  I used it a lot for my weekly itinerariers.  I miss being able to search by style.  Is that something you can fix so we can do that again?

  • I was finally able to search by style.  I had to click a link to get there.  So now all of my fave clip art styles are bookmarked again in my favorites.  I'd be lost without them.  :-)  I'm still not crazy about the new site...but  can manage.

  • I hate your "new look!"  It is very confusing.  II miss how I could just point and click to my favorite clips.  Sometimes progress stinks!

  • I also am not happy with the new clip art site. I cannot narrow down my searches enough and it was easier on the old site to just scroll through the pages "collecting" possible candidates for download. I am sure that there are more images than at the old site, but it's too hard to find them without picking one and clicking on the "similar" link, which are not at all similar. Also, the partner sites you are so happy to work with charge for their images. That's great if you are using the images for professional needs but I am a teacher, I use a lot of clip art, and I really don't want to pay for it. I need images quickly and easily. Here is my suggestion: give us a way to narrow down the images by first picking a subject, such as "education", then a sub-category such as "students", then an image type such as "illustration", and then another image type such as "black and white", "professional", or "humorous", etc.

  • Actually, Linda, you can search by category. There is a long list of categories on the right side of the home page, including "Academic." Additionally, there are filters on the left side of the page that enable you to filter by type  - photo, illustration, animation or sound.

  • Nancy- can I use some of the Free Microsoft clip art for use on my website?
