With the release of the new Project, there's curiosity about how best to put it to work and apply its wide range of resources in a variety of business roles. Some people are experienced users who want to learn new tricks, while others are just discovering Project's capabilities for the first time.
To help, we rounded up some of our most popular articles and organized them by common work responsibilities. Here, the focus is project managers with topics including great new and updated features like reports, timelines and task paths, fresh templates in Project 2013, and even some deeper technical discussions. Read on for a consolidated list of features we think you'll love.
On average, people work on five to seven projects at a time. For example, a wedding planner may have several clients that she is planning weddings for and she might have a task management site in SharePoint for each (see “Managing Tasks in SharePoint”). In this case, she’ll have tasks assigned to her from several different places, in addition to tracking personal tasks outside of those projects.
Rather than drilling into each site individually to see her assignments, she can now use a new feature called My Tasks, under the Newsfeed Hub, to see at a glance all the things she needs to do across projects together in one place.
My Tasks can aggregate all tasks assigned to you in SharePoint, Outlook, and Project into one experience and enables you to organize and manage both personal and assigned tasks alike.
The goal is not just to show you tasks but to be a one stop shop to take action on them too. Here are some things it can help you do.
Hi, my name is Matt, I’m a PM on the Project team and I’m here to talk with you a bit about the improvements that we’ve made to the timesheet experience in the new version of Project Web App. Over the course of the next couple posts I’ll talk about improvements targeted at both end-users, backend administrators, and developers that streamline the timesheet process and provide increased functionality to make you more effective.
In my first post I’d like to chat about the improvements that we’ve made for end-users, the people who actually have to fill out their time card every week or so. Here on the product team we realize that one of the most tedious, and yet common, tasks that many users have to complete using Project Web App (PWA) is filling out their time card. To help ease the pain and make it faster for you to get back to your actual work we’ve made several improvements to the experience in PWA 2013.
Project managers can do their best work when life is easy for their team members. With the release of the new Project, now there are new and improved ways for team members to do their part in keeping the project on track with minimal process friction. To help, we rounded up some of our most popular articles and organized them by common work responsibilities. Here, the focus is on team members, with topics including consolidated task management, quick collaboration, and streamlined time tracking--which should put a smile on everyone's face.
