On the Office Web Apps team, we are committed to improving our products based on your feedback. Since we launched the Web Apps just over a year ago, we’ve been listening to you, and today we’re releasing new features based on what we’ve heard.
To everybody who has shared their opinion with us, we want to say a big THANK YOU!
Here’s what we’re delivering to you today, based on your requests:
OneNote Web App Ink display. We’ve heard from our OneNote customers who like to use pen-input devices on Tablet PCs to draw and write notes, and we’ve heard from others who enjoy using the Draw tools in OneNote to add ink and highlighting with the mouse or trackpad when working on PC. You’ve told us that you’d like to be able to view your handwritten notes and drawings in the OneNote Web App. With today’s update, the OneNote Web App now displays ink.
Merge and Autofit cells in Excel Web App. Many Excel Web App customers have requested enhanced cell formatting in the Excel Web App, including the ability to merge cells, and to automatically fit cell sizes based on the content the cells contain (AutoFit). With today’s update, you can now do both in the Excel Web App.
Print directly from Excel Web App in the browser. One of our top requests from Excel Web App customers is to print Excel spreadsheets directly from the Excel Web App. We think this enhancement will be a great time-saver when you need to print a spreadsheet by accessing your Excel documents stored on SkyDrive when you’re away from your main PC.
Right-click menus in Excel Web App. We have also heard from Excel Web App customers that you’d like to be able to be able to use some of the same right-click short-cuts that are in Excel for the desktop. Now, you can right-click on cells in the Excel Web App to Cut, Copy, Paste, and work with HyperLinks.
Other improvements to make the Web Apps faster and more reliable. One of the most important things you’ve requested from us is to make the Web Apps faster and more reliable. Today’s update includes a lot of behind-the-scenes improvements that do just that.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some more details about how our team listens and acts on your feedback, and we’ll share examples of how we’ve been improving product. Thanks again for all the suggestions, survey responses, and thoughtful comments in social media—please do keep them coming, because we’re listening!

ow, thanks for letting me know! Office Web Apps just keeps getting better!
Hello Jenni,
Being a long time and heavy user of Office Web Apps, this update means a lot to me. I have one complaint though...A few months back you people added co-authoring to Word Web App and Excel as well, but that type of co-authoring is certainly nothing as compared to what Google Docs offers. In Google Docs, co-authoring is totally live, the changes appear on your end right after they are made at the other end....without needing to update or sync the document. I really miss that feature in Office. Being a big fan and long time user of Office, I would love to see that feature in both Web Apps and client version of the software.
I have other suggestions too. Can you tell me a place where I can submit some suggestion directly to the product team? You can reach me on email.
Thanks.
How do I get the Office Web Apps update?
@larrywaldman I just got around tor eading what you said about Excel Web Apps. I would like to see as far as on the Windows Phone with the Excel Web App a way to automatically update Excel macros that you might have created in a table of sales data and any changes in quarterly sales trends to be automatically relected in the macro through the app without having to go into VBA to edit the macro.
At present I'm unable to edit a Word document in Word Web App when
1. Content Controls are there
2. Document is protected for editing i.e. restricted editing is turned on and only few regions in document are editable
Are these going to be supported in upcoming version of Word Web App. Thanks.
@waqashn: I'll chime in for Jenni on this one... Co-authoring model for Word is designed to give authors more control. Our research told us that most people want to finish their thought or sentence before letting other co-authors see it. And they like to work uniniterrupted by others' changes. When you're ready to see others' changes and show your own, you hit Save. It keeps you in the driver's seat. Here's a blog post during the development of Office 2010 that goes into detail about the design of the experience: blogs.office.com/.../co-authoring-in-word-2010.aspx
@Rblack40: Update to the Web Apps was released on SkyDrive. Any Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote documents that you have stored on SkyDrive... when you view or edit in the browser (in Office Web Apps), you'll see the new features
@atul_nith: Right, content controls are placeholders in Editing View (though you can edit the rest of the document); and docs that have editing restrictions have to be edited in the Word desktop app. In docs like these, can you hit Open in Word to edit them? When you save the doc in Word, it's saved back on SkyDrive, where you can still view it in the browser.
how to make outlook emails and attachments work with quick books, like emailing estimates or invoices or receiving email business and private for any of it. Can you help me out? I would greatly appreciate it.
