Office Web Apps Now Available on Windows Live

We are excited to announce that today Office Web Apps are available on Windows Live. The initial release is available to Windows Live customers in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland with support for English, Spanish (USA) and French (Canada). More languages and locales will be added over the coming months.

This release includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote. The ability to edit Word documents and open OneNote notebooks is included. Not only do we want you to try these web apps, we also really want to hear what you think. Please use the feedback links in the web apps.

We’ll have more to share early next week when Office 2010 is released to consumers, including how Office 2010 + SkyDrive + Office Web Apps give you a great experience across the PC, phone and browser.

Check out Office Web Apps on Windows Live and read the Windows Live Announcement.

  • I uploaded a 30 MB word doc but when I try to edit it online, it comes back and says Word Web app cannot open this document because its size is too big. I thought that the limit is 50 MB. Is something wrong here?

  • Hi, I can't seem to find the web apps, where are they hidden? In Windows Live there is no link and I can only edit, copy and move existing word documents. I've noticed some links in the Office menu, but when I click "new Word document" I get: "This item might not exist or is no longer available

This item might have been deleted, expired, or you might not have permission to view it. Contact the owner of this item for more information. " What's going on?

  • What happened to the Silverlight version of this?

  • It would be great to integrate Web Apps with inexpensive email hosting (goodbye GoogleDocs!) to offer America's public schools a way to reduce licensing costs, storage, network hardware costs, etc., in this era of diminishing funding and cutbacks.  At first glance, Office Web Apps seem to work well for the casual user and/or learner.  Perhaps elementary schools (K-5) would be a good target audience for something like this?  My biggest concerns for this proposal would be security measures to keep kids safe and administrative/archiving tools/services.  Definitely looking forward to watching WebApps evolve, turning a good thing into something really great for American schools!

  • Hello, when did you started the WebApps functionality at SkyDrive for German customers and WindowsLive users?

  • How do I get out of Web Apps. All I want is my old hotmail account.

  • @Confused and Ignorant, You can download attachments and skip Office Web Apps by clicking the download link in the email. The UI Is a bit finicky because the box surrounding the download link is also clickable and opens the web app. We are aware of the issue and will improve the UI but hopefully you will now be able to successfully download your files.

  • Complaints- these are all deal breaking and all possible in Google Docs

No F4 functionality to switch absolute vs relative reference in formulas.

Drag to select won't let me select data other than what is on screen. If I have 100 rows of data, I can only drag select what I can see on screen.

Shift+Ctrl+Arrow Key or just Shift+Arrow Key for that matter. This needs to be supported to make navigation easier.

  • WOW!!! This is wonderful. This will make my work a lot easier. Thanks.
