Office Web Apps Now Available on Windows Live

We are excited to announce that today Office Web Apps are available on Windows Live. The initial release is available to Windows Live customers in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland with support for English, Spanish (USA) and French (Canada). More languages and locales will be added over the coming months.

This release includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote. The ability to edit Word documents and open OneNote notebooks is included. Not only do we want you to try these web apps, we also really want to hear what you think. Please use the feedback links in the web apps.

We’ll have more to share early next week when Office 2010 is released to consumers, including how Office 2010 + SkyDrive + Office Web Apps give you a great experience across the PC, phone and browser.

Check out Office Web Apps on Windows Live and read the Windows Live Announcement.

  • sweeet!!! have been waiting for a long time for this!!! :) looks very similar to docs.com . love the integration with Installed Office 2010 :)

  • OneNote Web App looks pretty cool. Is there a browser bookmarklet that can push content to the OneNote Web App?

  • nice to see the interface is still live.com. not. seriously all the work put into this and you keep this pos?

    i'll pass.

  • how does this integrate into office live workspace? oh it doesnt. nice work beta team way to think that one through.

  • When is it possible to synchronize Onenote Mobile 2010 files with Windows Live?

Today, I have to use Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center for synchronization with my computer.

  • this is awesome!! Great work by the web apps team!! You guys rock!

  • You didn't specify if it will be free or what the charges are.

Once we know what is going to be we can plan ahead.

    Thanks for the effort though.

  • What happened to Silverlight version? Can I switch to the Silverlight based rendering instead of HTML?

Can you please say if and how OWA can be integrated in the our apps?

    Thank you.

  • OneNote is pretty cool. Evernote is better IMO.  But now that OneNote is so well integrated, it is turning into a close call.

  • (Directed to user "thetruth") The Office Web Apps don't integrate into Office Live Workspace because they are designed to take over and be used instead of Office Live Workspace. (My own personal comment) I really enjoy the Office Web Apps but my only problem is something is preventing me from seeing them to edit them, maybe I'm missing something I have to download since my University computer lab PCs run Windows Vista and I run Windows 7. I have Silverlight installed so I don't understand why I'm having problems. Maybe someone could explain it to me?

  • The Office Web Apps it's just AWESOME!, there you have everething you need, I say that this is a wothy adversary to the Google Apps, maybe the only leak it's the real-time multi-editing, but for the rest, it's awesome.

Just one more thing, it would be great to add the touch and hadwriting support to the OneNote web application, why? well with the coming of Windows Embedded Compact 7, the lack of OneNote support it's terrible!, if the Windows Embedded Compact 7 can run some versión of the Office suite (like the Windows 7 Phone) or giving support to handwriting in the web apps version, that defenitely are going to kick-ass the iPad, I mean, why I will use a tablet that lacks in pen support?

  • Hi

  • Some excellent advice below ... comments from the Web Apps team?

"I have advice for Microsoft as well. Office Web Apps isn’t good enough in its current state. And if you're going to compete in this market, you must do as Google does and update this offering early and often. If you wait until the next Office suite upgrade to rev Office Web Apps—and I think you want to do just that—then you’ve already lost the battle. Those who use Office unwaveringly prefer it to Google Docs, because it's better. But for a coming generation of younger users, Google Docs is what they know, and the superiority of Microsoft's offerings is both an unknown and of no consequence. Office Web Apps needs to be good enough to make the Google generation consider a change. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time."
