Today's Office comic was inspired by Docs for Facebook and the ability in Facebook to set your status to "single," "married," or "it's complicated."

If you haven't heard of Docs, it's an app for Facebook (built on top of the Office 2010 web apps!) that lets you create and share Office documents with your Facebook friends--without ever leaving your browser. For a more thoughtful discussion of Docs by one of our VPs, check out "Cloud creates new opportunities for Office: thoughts on Docs for Facebook." The app is still in Beta, so if you want to try it out, you need to sign up.

Semi-random tip: In Office 2007 (and Office 2010), you can prevent changes to the final version of a document by using the Mark as Final command.

Today's Office comic was inspired by the online videos I've seen of the recently announced Kin phones.

But seriously, the multi-touch UI on the phones does look kind of cool, and I love the HD camera and ability to easily store pictures and videos in the cloud. I'm honestly thinking of getting one.

Semi-random tip: Speaking of pictures, PowerPoint 2010 has a cool new feature that can remove the background from a picture with just a couple clicks. I've been using it for a while now, and it continues to amaze me that it works as advertised.

Today’s Office comic was inspired by my obsession with Reality Television.

Now that I think about it, the problem with "American Idle" is that there'd be way too many contestants, and you'd never be able to kick them off (as I posted on Twitter). What about you? Do you have an idea for a reality-based TV show about work?

Semi-random tip: PowerPoint 2010 has a ton of new features related to video. My favorite is the ability to save your slide deck as a video file.

-- David Salaguinto
To learn more about Office, visit Office.com.

Bosses + Being proactive = (Office comic)

Today’s Office comic was inspired (in a roundabout way) by the fact that daylight savings time begins this weekend, and most of us are going to lose an hour of time.

Semi-random tip: If you work with someone in another time zone, it’s easy to add their time zone to your Outlook calendar. Just go to your Calendar, right-click the empty space above the time bar, click Change Time Zone, and select Show an additional time zone.

Today’s Office comic was inspired by the news that we are on schedule to release Office 2010 to manufacturing (RTM) in April, and that businesses can upgrade to Office 2010 on May 12.

Semi-random tip: Starting on March 5, if you buy Office 2007, you can upgrade to Office 2010 for free.

Semi-random tip: Then next time your spouse sends you e-mail, right-click their name in the message header and click Add to Outlook contacts. It makes it so much easier to stay in touch virtually, if not physically.

What do you do to stay in touch with your significant other? (And I'm not talking about your PC.)

Semi-random tip: One of my favorite things about Office 2010 is how well it works with “jump lists” in Windows 7. To open a recent item or perform a common task, just right-click the program icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. It might not make you happy, but it might make you happier.

Of course, I’m not the only one who had that idea. Turns out, over 80,000 other people had it too.

Today’s Office comic was inspired by the “I’m a PC” ad campaign and the news that Microsoft announced record-breaking revenue of $19 Billion dollars last quarter.

Semi-random tip: You may not be able to save $19 Billion dollars, but you can save a lot of money using Bing cashback. I use it all the time, and my wife thinks it’s one of my better ideas. Right up there with working at Microsoft.

What keyboard shortcuts do you not use?

Today’s Office comic was inspired by all the keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Office.

Semi-random tip: It’s not a keyboard shortcut exactly, but my favorite trick when drawing in any Office program is to select a shape, press the Control key, and then drag the mouse to make a copy. You can even press the Shift key at the same time to make sure the shapes are perfectly aligned.
