I became an Outlook user at the end of last year, at first because I got totally fed up with Thunderbird (TABS with e-mails, what HAVE they been smoking?) and eventually because my 2nd choice SeaMonkey (thunderbird "spinoff") did meet some of my expectations but....

The first comment I usually get when the convesations gets to Outlook is.. (I consider myself geek/nerd and a lot of my friends share this interest; as such it should come at no surprise that 'tech' is often the current topic) "ok, but you run your own company now so you have higher demands now.. mr bigshot!" :-)

Sersiously; that sementic is what I see living a lot around me. Friends /and/ customers alike; "Outlook is big, difficult and different". Of course the first thing I wanted to change when I started using Outlook was the (to me) weird looks. columns? No thanks. I'll have my menu on the left, my mailbox overview on top and my e-mail preview full-width (as possible) at the bottom, thank you very much.

Outlook 2010 has me covered! Slightly offtopic: the moment I press control-e and start looking for sometrhing /completely/ irrlevant to an e-mail (= no mention of this in the headers, the topic nor addressees) and Outlook still picks up what I want and shows this in a time which I experience to be much quicker than Thunderbird going through an average mailbox.... I honestly get some people visibly wondering... "That is some index they're keeping...".

I already shared my opinion in several fora (when I like something I tend to share the goods) and well... My conclusion is that you guys have to face your legacy. I was a daytime job admin around Office 2003 and it didn't interest me one bit (one part got fueled with a new laptop and OneNote 2003.. that kicked some serious <censored>). Yet I recognize like no other what changes have been made with Office 2010.

Even so; most of my friends still approach my enthosiasm with previous experiences in mind. And I think the same applies to Outlook.

To finish; just want to share that the social connector even is highly advicable even if you're not very "social" :-) The only social network I attend and trust is Microsoft Live. As such I got the connector.

What I really like is that when reading a message from $PERSON I can get to evertying I wrote to him with two clicks of the mouse. Thanks to the Hotmail social connector. Even when going to the Sent messages it would have taken you more effort...

Outlook (2010) goes MUCH deeper than most people (seem to) realize.

Here the MS Office team basically gives us tips and tricks (and interesting background info) on specific topics.

But Microsoft has you covered, for common questions you should check out "Microsoft Answers" and for in-depth technical issues there's the TechNet forums:

Microsoft Answers: http://answers.microsoft.com/

TechNet forums: social.technet.microsoft.com/forums

And obviously the Office team also reads these comments, so if you have a question about something they've shown you then simply ask! Either they or other users are bound to try and help you out.

You won't find a better community for MS related problems elsewhere.
