How to install the Outlook Social Connector (video)

The installation of Outlook Social Connector is different from most downloads. Besides downloading Outlook Social Connector (for Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003; it’s included in Outlook 2010), you must download provider files for each social network you want to connect to. Watch this short video to see how, and see the important links plus an overview of the Outlook Social Connector, below.

Note: To use Facebook in the Outlook Social Connector, you must allow a third party application (which is the default setting). If you have edited these settings in Facebook, you may need to edit them again. On your Facebook home page, click Account, and then click Application Settings

Written instructions are at Office.com for Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003.

For more help, ask questions at Microsoft Answers.

UPDATE: Read about the January, 2012 Outlook Social Connector update.

For Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003, you can download the Outlook Social Connector. Outlook 2010 users will be automatically prompted for an update to use these features. Then visit the provider files homepage at Office.com.

  • Terri: don't know which link you are talking about. If you are looking for the People Pane, it's in the View tab. Also, Outlook 2010 will need an update to get Facebook. Find out more at Microsoft Answers: social.answers.microsoft.com/.../threads

  • I'm having the same issue as GP. Installed Linkedin and Facebook connectors but they do not appear in Outlook - just My Site. I'm using Outlook 2010.

  • Loving this - how about an addin for Twitter next?

  • Robyn: as you wish.

We already have a Twitter add-in. See the Office Casual here about Twinbox: blogs.office.com/.../office-casual-how-to-twitter-in-outlook-with-twinbox.aspx

  • what short video below.  There is no video below.

  • Doug - may I ask you please a question tied to O.S.C?  I like the contact card feature, for example, that is associated with the email address and within the people pane, but I prefer if it doesn't display many other of my 'exchange' details (i.e job title, etc) - How can I customize that view so that it is as minimalistic as possible, perhaps just the name showing only?  Please provide step by step instructions - warm regards

  • Char:

You can do it this way (Outlook 2003 instructions)

1.In Contacts, click the contact card you want.

2.On the View menu, point to Arrange By, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current View.

    3.Click Fields.

4.In the Show these fields in this order box, click the field you want to remove.

    5.Click Remove.

  • Perhaps you should get some lessons from Lynda.com on how to post videos online

  • scottp: If you do not see the videos, perhaps you need an update/install of www.silverlight.com.

  • Was wondering if there is a plug in for www.graduateconnections.com. I have Win 7 with Outlook 2010.  It's a social network that I am on. I pay a yearly fee to belong so it's not like the free ones that have viruses that come through. Thanks Much for the info. New to posting stuff so hope I did this right.

  • Dear Lot's Of Questions: Let me look into third party scenarios with the OSC. I've heard about it happening, but let me see about finding some resources for you.
