Matt Shelton contributed today's post about how to use Out of Office and Automatic Replies to send email responses when you're away from the office. Matt, a senior writer, focuses on creating Office content for teachers and students.
If you can't reply to e-mails during the work day (or if you're away from your computer), you know how emails can pile up. And it can be frustrating when you email someone with a question and you get no response. For days. Only to find out later that they were on vacation.
Enter the Out of Office Assistant and Automatic Replies. You can send an automatic email response to anyone who emails you during the time you're away from your desk. If you're on vacation, in an extra-long meeting, or just taking a lunch break, use Out of Office to tell the sender where you are, when you'll be back, and who to contact in your absence.
What's your best Out of Office story?

Hello,
Its really a good feature to send automatic replies to others when you are not available to reply the incoming mails. Out of Office Assistant is available for exchange server accounts but by creating rules one can still create this feature. To check whether you are using an exchange account, open inbox folder and then go to Tools menu and check for Out of Office Assistant option.

Thanks for your tip, Jane! And thanks for reading The Office Blogs.

Thank you for this post. It's really useful.
One of my staff left the company, and I'd like to set up his out of office message to reply to EVERY incoming email (not just once to each sender, which is the default). I've set up a rule with a reply template; this works, but Outlook ALSO sends a blank email with "out of office" in the subject line.
Do you know how I can stop the blank email from being sent?
Thanks for your help!
Valerie
Hi Valerie,
I haven't found the answer to your question, but if you want more people helping you sort through this, contact answers.microsoft.com.
Thanks for reading Office Blogs!
is it possible to make your out of office auto response to reply every time an email is sent from the same sender during your out of office time span rather than only the first time. When i am out of office for an extended time my clients forget between day 1 and day 5 that i am out for 5 more days and wonder why I am not responding to them.
I will be out of the office until Monday September 3rd - I will have limited access to my mail
