Starting today you can download the new Outlook 2010 Social Connector to see what your contacts are up to on LinkedIn from right within the Outlook 2010 beta. When Office 2010 ships, you'll also be able to see your contacts' Facebook and MySpace actions in the same place.
But let's take a step back: what is the Outlook 2010 Social Connector? Take a look at the photo below:
At the bottom of each email you can see your recent meetings, emails, and SharePoint doings with whoever sent it, plus a photo. You can easily toggle the information off and on.
How does this save me time? Instead of searching or digging through my inbox, I can see the most recent info and email from Michael, for example, right in front of me. And when I step up from the beta to Office 2010, I won't have to go to Facebook to see what he's been up to lately. Instead, his recent Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn actions will show up right there in Outlook. (See photo below for what that will look like).
Dev Balasubramanian, a Product Manager on the Outlook team, summed it up nicely: “You can view friends’ activities, photos, and status updates within Outlook — as well as grow your network by adding friends from the same view.”
So, if you want to play with the Social Connector now,
Important: LinkedIn for Outlook requires the latest version of the Outlook Social Connector, which supports the 32-bit English version of the official Microsoft Office 2010 Beta. Learn more about the whys and wherefores on the Outlook team blog. Also, the usual beta rules apply: it's provided as-is, subject to change without notice, and without formal product support from Microsoft.

I just the osc update, and the LinkedIn piece on my system running Vista x32 and Office2010 x32 beta.
I'm now getting a hard failure when starting Outlook. I've tried removing both the OSC and the LinkedIn piece, and have tried repairing Office 2010; however none of these are having an effect.

How do I get Outlook running again?
I managed to get Outlook running again by removing all references to SOCIALCONNECTOR.DLL from the registry - although that's obviously stripped the feature from Outlook. Should I try reinstalling it; or wait for the next version?
If you are experiencing a crash, be sure to uninstall the version of the OSC that came with Office 2010 beta and then install the new version.
More details can be found at the Outlook Blog.
No x64 version? Is one in the works?
Starting today you can connect to MySpace from the Outlook 2010 Beta using MySpace for Outlook , the
I really hope this is something I can lock down through GPO or Office installation customization. Being a company that deals with HIPAA and 42 CFR it is critical I make sure only certain people have this feature and everyone else is blocked or doesn't get it.

"How does this save me time?" I've asked myself this question as well, when seeing the latest updates on facebook I guess that most people tend to do some further research about the group his contact joined, about the new friends of the contact and very easily, 15 minutes are wasted. I prefer my search tool lookeen, all it does is searching and this is exactly what I want.
I installed the linkedin connector with RTM outlook 2010. The install worked fine, I can see the linkedin connector and can login. However, nothing works. I see no contacts. Anyone else have this problem?
all one needs to do is to go to the registry and remove SOCIALCONNECTOR.DLL and outlook will start working.
When is the Facebook connector due?
