If it sounds too good to be true, it's too good to be true

I guess I'm still surprised when friends fall for email scams and solicitations. I thought everyone had gotten used to the absurd emails from someone you don't know suggesting you have won a fortune. But, based on the emails my friends continue to forward to me, apparently not everyone is savvy. I guess that's why these emails are still floating around - they must net enough gullible folks to make it worthwhile.

If you have received an email from someone you don't know, about some contest you didn't enter, just delete it. If you get something from a friend that appears to be legitimate, but you're still not sure, why not check out the story on Snopes.com, such as this internet hoax that has been circulating since 1997.

Do yourself a favor and make sure your security is updated on your computer so that if you do open some malicious email, you won't be affected.

What internet hoaxes have you fallen for?
