While the term "domain name" may sound esoteric, it's actually a very simple concept. Domain names represent the online identity of companies and individuals. A domain name is how people refer to your company's online presence.
A domain name is a unique name. When combined with "www." your domain name becomes a web address. For example, if "contoso.com" is your domain name, then www.contoso.com becomes your web address. Alternatively, when a domain name is combined with "username@" it becomes an email address. For example, if an employee called "Joe" works at "Contoso," his email address would be Joe@Contoso.com. Because a domain name has to be unique, organizations have to find out if the name they want is available and, if it is, register it. Once organizations register their domain name, it cannot be taken or used by other companies. Organizations use domain registrars such as GoDaddy to acquire and register domains.

That's a very cool integration, especially for those unfamiliar with how to go about registering a domain name on the web. I do have a question, however. Does this method of purchasing domains through GoDaddy support alternative TLDs and cTLDs such as .CO? I didn't see a screenshot which captured suggesting alternative domains from others.
I'd like to tag on to cballou's question - Does this implementation also include premium/aftermarket domains?
Good change and integration.
In your third screen shot Microsoft appears to be using GoDaddy's old logo which incorporated the .COM reference. Notice in the first two screen shots GoDaddy's current logo is properly used. Just a friendly FYI.
We do support alternative TLDs and cTLDs.
At this time, you cannot purchase aftermarket or premium domains through this integration. But if you buy such domain directly from GoDaddy and bring to Office 365, we do offer automated DNS setup for those domains. Thanks for pointing this out. We will get this fixed.

We use Network Solutions for DNS - is Microsoft working with NetSol for an integration as well? It would give a bit more choice.

It works nice as long as you clear any relevant records & I use Godaddy but many customers don't especially in Scandanavia since Godaddy doesn't offer those domains.
