Today, we're introducing a new offering for university and college students called Office 365 University. Available in the first quarter of 2013, Office 365 University will be offered online, at retail locations and at Microsoft Stores in 52 markets worldwide.
Starting today, eligible students can buy Office University 2010 or Office University for Mac 2011 and receive a free subscription to Office 365 University when it becomes available.
Because you shouldn't take our word for it, we gave higher-education students an early look at Office 365 University and here are some of their reactions:
"I was already happy with the Office 365 Home Premium prices, so when I heard the education pricing my jaw hit the floor." - Devin Pastoor, University of Maryland
Full- and part-time enrolled university and college students, faculty and staff in accredited institutions are eligible to purchase Office 365 University.
Higher-education students, faculty and staff must verify their eligibility online as part of the Office 365 University product activation process. (Note: Verification is post-purchase for all channels except directly from Microsoft Store, where we offer a pre-purchase verification.)

Like you said. I would assume the Surface Pro is gonnabe counted asa computer on its own.
Waiting for Surface Pro too!!!! Can't wait.
What about Singapore too?
If the Home Premium costs USD 99.99 and can be installed on up to 5 machines, why then would students wanna get the USD 79.99 to be limited to 2 machines and 4 years?
Oh, just saw the blog post and the USD 99.99 is an annual fee... my bad. Looks like the student version is still worth it! =)
Surface Pro WILL be counted in that limit, because it's just running a regular copy of Windows 8 that you will install Office 2013 onto. Surface RT and Windows Phone 8 won't count though, because Office is included on those.
If I already have 25 gb of Skydrive storage, would signing up for this get me an additional 25 gb?
So, I take it this will be available in Australia? And if so, any word on pricing? :3
Will this service be available for college students in Peru?
Andrew this announcement is not linked with your upgrade from Live@edu to Office 365 for education. After that upgrade everyone will retain their LiveID (now known as Microsoft Account) which can be used to access SkyDrive and other Windows Live services. They will each have an Office 365 account as well, that they can use to access the services of Exchange Online, Lync Online and SharePoint Online.

How do I apply? The education site seems to imply that I must be a admin at the University... and the prices don't line up.
Sounds like a fair offer.
I find it interesting that Office 365 University will be licensed for two devices. Should we understand this as a hint that Office 2013 Home&Student can be installed on two devices as well (a single users stationary and mobile PC), as was the case with previous Office versions?
I'm not sure about the standalone version, but the Home Premium subscription for Office 2013 allows for installation on up to five PCs/Macs, as well as streaming to any PC with an Internet connection.

Will there be an Office 2013 University version, i.e. similar to Office 2010 University that you buy and can use forever?
Or is the subscription service now going to be the only option for student? I really hope this is not the case as I hate subscription services for software.
