Today, we launched Chip In, a crowd-funding site to help students get a new PC for college. Just like a wedding registry, students sign up for the PC of their choice. Then, they can ask mom, dad, grandma, (Facebook) friends, and (Twitter) followers to chip in to fund the new PC. Even better, we'll chip in too. Microsoft will contribute 10% of the purchase price on select PCs, and for the first 10,000 people who get their PC fully funded, we'll throw in a 4-year subscription to Office 365 University.
On Monday, we announced the availability of Student Advantage, which enables schools and universities licensing Office 365 ProPlus or Office Professional Plus for staff and faculty to extend the service to students at no additional cost. We also mentioned a new education customer has recently turned to Office 365, and today we're happy to officially share more details.
Like a lot of working moms, Ali Larter wears a lot of hats (mom, wife, actress, author, and more), while trying to balance "me time." See how she uses Office 365 Home Premium to stay organized and get it all done.
Today, in Las Vegas, we kicked off SharePoint Conference 2012 with more than ten thousand customers, partners and enthusiasts. Here's a snapshot of news you won't want to miss.
Read Microsoft Office Division President Kurt DelBene's blog about the latest release of Microsoft Office 365 for businesses. "When we first set out to build this release of Office, we knew it would be the boldest yet. We wanted to create that 'over-the-shoulder envy' that makes your friend or the guy sitting next to you on the plane ask what you're using. In a recent survey, 96 percent of people who were asked said they'd recommend Office to a friend. With the new Office 365 services we know that customers will enjoy entirely new benefits and unique scenarios that only come alive in the cloud."
At this week's inaugural Lync Conference, Microsoft is celebrating a people-centric vision for the future of communications technology, including the announcement that Lync-Skype connectivity for presence, IM and voice will be available to all Lync users by June. We have been honored by the rate of Lync adoption and encourage you to check out the new customer references we have for Lync 2013, available as of today.
The new Office provides powerful new capabilities and advancements that enterprises can get excited about. This fall, we have two major product-focused conferences - Microsoft Exchange Conference (MEC) in September and Microsoft SharePoint Conference (SPC) in November - that will dive deep into new features for enterprises. However, today you can view a video from July's Office preview event, which features demos of a sampling of the new Office's enterprise capabilities.
Information overload is real, and it's important to #unplug for creativity and sanity. We also realize most people don't always have the luxury of doing so, and that includes most of us at Microsoft. One of our dev teams even built an internal app, called Focus Time, to shut off electronic distractions. The app, which was downloaded internally thousands of times, switches Outlook to offline mode and sets Lync to "Do Not Disturb," so we can work without electronic distractions.
For those who can't escape to a tech-free summer camp, here are some tips on how to put your technology to work for you--stopping it from distracting you and helping you harness it as a force for good.
