Have you looked into SQL Server Express 2012? I am not sure what you are trying to do exactly, but SQL Express sports a lot more bang for the buck on data management. msdn.microsoft.com/.../cc645993(v=SQL.110).aspx

I am excited about the next version of SharePoint the most. In pretty much all previous versions, there have been major overhauls to the architecture. I wonder what will happen next. I do know that Claims Based Authentication, User Profile Service, and Performance Point integration need more work (as with 2010 these features felt forcefully and inefficiently integrated in an otherwise awesome platform.)

Also, you did not mention FAST, is that being overhauled as well or will be a minor update?
