Keep your name from looking like a spelling mistake (video)

Does your name appear as a spelling mistake in Word? Then you're not alone. As part of our Call-to-Action campaign, I recently asked our Microsoft Student Facebook friends to share their Word pet peeves. And this pet peeve was top of the list. Luckily, there's a quick fix.

  • Right-click the word and then click Add to Dictionary.

If you're fingers were a little too click happy and you accidentally added a misspelled word into your dictionary, here's a quick video showing you how to delete words from the spell check dictionary. By the way, these same steps work for Access, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, and Visio.

If you've got a pet peeve you'd like to share with us, leave a comment. We're always looking for feedback on what you're trying to do with Office products.

  • Great post, Jenn!

Many of my coworkers call me "Annelids," which Word suggests as a replacement for "Anneliese."

An annelid is defined as any segmented worm of the phylum Annelida, including earthworms and leeches. How cool and appropriate is that?!?

  • Anneliese, that is hilarious. I'm guessing this is the only reason I will ever know anything about an annelid. Fascinating! Funny story, I discovered a Facebook fan page dedicated to spell check suggestions on how folks should rewrite their name. It's pretty colorful and humorous.
