The Office for Mac blog just announced some very exciting news, Lync for Mac 2011 Released to Manufacturing! See the original post by Kirk Gregersen here.
When we first announced Lync Server 2010 last November, we talked about our commitment to supporting multiple platforms and how over the course of 2011 you would see Lync become available for other platforms. I’m excited to share with you today that Lync for Mac 2011 has been Released to Manufacturing, commonly referred to as RTM.
Starting in October, our Mac customers will be able to experience the integrated communications experience that Lync has become well known for. From the updated contact cards to the ability to set up Lync conferences from Outlook 2011 for Mac to enterprise voice features, Lync for Mac 2011 offers Mac users integrated functionality for presence, instant messaging, conferencing and voice and is designed to work with both Lync Server 2010 and Lync Online.

Lync for Mac 2011 is available to customers as a part of the Office for Mac 2011 Volume Licensing SKU, Office for Mac Standard 2011, or through many of Microsoft’s Licensing programs. Customers can also purchase the application as a standalone volume licensing SKU.

Nice! I am still waiting for the iPad and Windows Phone 7 Lync Clients.
Voilà une nouvelle qui ravira certains.. dont moi! le blo ...
If we already own Office 2011, can we download it for free?
We are also migrating to Office365.
Will there be an Attendee version for Mac?
@Manishi, Stay Tuned!
@Steve, Yes, any O365 paying customers will have access to free download for temporary basis once released to Office 365. More details to be shared at that time.
@Jon, Assume you mean a web based version via Safari/FF?
Everyone can see that you are passionate about the things you write about.
No not the web based version. There is a client version for Windows called Microsoft Lync Attendee and it is for people that don’t have Lync installed but are invited to meeting by company that has Lync Server. But there is no Mac version for this client. With the Attendee client you can join both voice and video conferencing but you cannot do that with the web version. Here is link to the download site for the Windows Lync Attendee www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx
I can't connect my iMac's with Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Office 365, but I can do that to my inhouse Lync Server. Is there anything under the table to put it work?????
Any idea if this will be early October or late?
well it's October, so where is it???
Have checked the "install Lync" on my O365 home page and still nothing there.
Still no news on iphone4 / 5 or ipad2.
Very poor MS, this is why i migrated to Mac.
With the recent security issues my colleagues have all experienced with their windows machines I have them seriously looking into the MB Pro's with iWork, beats windows office everytime.
It's now mid-October, and nothing to show. Where and when can we download Lync for Mac???
Lync for Mac has been released to those who have Volume Licenses only. It is available for download at www.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx. The file name is SW_DVD5_Lync_Mac_2011_MultiLang_ISO_MLF_X17-93967.ISO and it is 62.2MB.
Any news about the Lunc Attendee for mac? It this something that is planned at all?
