Hi I'm Jose Gomez Cueto and I work in the Office 365 Product Marketing team. I am on site here at the Office 365 event in New York, and I’m excited to be bringing you a live look into today's events. Follow along here for more details from the morning and don’t forget tune in to watch Steve Ballmer take the stage at 10 a.m. ET.
We are here at the Skylight Soto in downtown New York. The press is already beginning to arrive, talking with assorted Microsoft employees and actual beta customers. The pic to the right is our Clint Patterson talking to customers from Bea's Insurance. Follow the link to read more about some of the customers using Office 365 today.
Here’s a pic of the inside our Elisa Graceffo demoing Office 365 to the press.
Loving the Jazz trio providing music for the event.
Steve Ballmer is it taking the stage and we are about to begin. You can watch live and I'll be capturing the main points below..
Steve: “Office is used by more than 1 billion people around the world.”
Steve: “We believe that effective collaboration is a matter of instant access to relevant information, ideas flowing freely and the right people taking the right action at the right time….the way we see it, great collaboration is critical to business growth.”
Steve: "It is impossible to overstate how important the small and medium sized segment is to the business world - they are responsible for nearly 2/3rds of global job growth and employ 1.5 billion people around the globe."
Steve: "We believe that the best collaboration technology should be available to everyone….without the requirement of a huge upfront investment or complex IT systems to manage and maintain."
It’s here – Steve just announced worldwide availability of Office 365.
Steve Ballmer has now passed the stage over to Kirk Koenigsbauer, CVP of Office Product Management for an Office 365 Demo.
Great Demo! People are loving the Lync Online Demo here in the room.
Kirk: “If you know how to edit word documents you can change your websites site look and feel.”
Steve Ballmer is now back on-stage, talking about some of our small business beta customers and how Office 365 has impacted their business.
Steve: “Some of the best companies on the planet already rely on our office cloud services and are excited about office 365.”
Steve: “Traveler’s Haven…can save $100,000 in IT expenses and cut out about 30 hours or work every day across the company. For Traveler’s Haven, that’s like increasing their staff by 30%.”
Steve: “The wise group in Scotland expects to cut travel costs and reduce carbon emissions by 30% after they retire 60 servers.” The CIO is turning the server room into a Jacuzzi suite.”… That’s great!
Steve: “There’s lots of opportunity out there to reach current and new customers – and to make that happen we’ll engage our massive global partner ecosystem.”
Steve: “Big-time partners – major telcos, leading hosters, and folks like Intuit – are packaging Office 365 with their services and delivering it to millions and millions of SMBs worldwide.”
Steve Ballmer is wrapping up. What do you think? Share your thoughts below and thanks for following!

Will the webcast be viewable after the live recording? If so, when and for how long? Thanks!
Yes, it will available for replay today.
Been using outlook online for a while. It would be nice to see you allow rich text on the email disclaimer object. Everyone is complaining in our organization that the email disclaimer doesn't look as nice! They love the service so far though.
How does the transition from beta to paying work? How do I and when will I need to provide you with payment information? Should I disable extra account that I created in the beta now so I am not charged for them?
Great post! Very excited about the Office365 offering, and I really like the community!
Looks like a very useful program, but why didn't Steve Balmer mention the technology being used to make all this happen? Why doesn't he ever mention VCSY and the patents that are utilized.....I guess this must be under the Confidential settlement agreement. VCSY folks......Mr. Wade is still keeping VCSY quiet for some reason. Avoiding new investers? What a crime.....imo
I am also concerned as to whether or not this announcement today impacts the Office365 beta dates. Will they still be free for the length we were given when we signed up for the product?
I am having trouble accessing the site, it took me to a Chinese-language version and the price list required a copy Word to be installed.. ???
I am a Small Business in Mexico City that works in both English and Spanish.New business promotion and existing client service calls keep me in the street much of my time as I am a one-man show. I believe this Office 365 that can synchronize with my Blackberry should increase my effectiveness and productivity while at the same time maintaining better contact with both new prospects and existing clients. Thanks Microsoft
I am working in Baghdad as an Advisor and see Office 365 as a great means for inter-office collaboration without investing millions. When will Office 365 be available in Arabic?
All great news, but.....
I've been a paying customer of BPOS for 2 years and I've heard absolutely nothing the past few months in terms of what happens to existing customers and importantly when we will be moved / migrated to Office365.
This is very poor form and I don't understand it?
The last email I received which had anything to do with Office365 was 5 May 2011 (New Password Policy) and prior to that 29 April (Start planning your transition).
There is a global announcement today about the fact it's 'now available' but not a single email to existing customers about when we will get it and all the details about pricing, switch over dates or anything else!
A disappointed customer....
Product features that support the inevitable - Apple and google dominance of the non pc market is critical to uptake. I signed up assuming that word and excel would work on an iPad with substantial computing capabilities and was very quickly disappointed. Even the deMo required installation of the silverlight plugin. Mac desktops were supported but somehow the iPads I see travelling in executive boardroooms aren't a part of the product specifications. It's really unfortunate as the value of office and "cloud" are exciting.c'mon microsoft!
How will Box.net and Google association effect Office 365 as quoted here: www.businessnews24hr.com/details.aspx Also Google aps are free for small business.
I think many people are confused by "Office 365".
I do not know if it is your department or management higher up, but in general many Microsoft products could use a much more logical and simpler naming scheme..
User of Office 365 plan 1.
Great news! I have migrated over to Office 365 from Google Apps. If you are interested in how I did this, then feel free to check out my blog posts on Migrating from Google Apps (GMail) to Office 365.
