The sheet is folded and trimmed to make one section of the book. Here, we're using the word signature to mean a group of paper sheets that will make up a section of a book. If you think of having a 80 page book, that would mean folding 20 sheets of paper in the middle, which would make the fold big and the pages wouldn't line up well. By making separate sections, each fold is thinner and the pages line up better. You can then glue or stitch the sections together. I hope this helps.

Why ?

f you want to print separate signatures that can later be bound into one book, click the number of pages that you want in each signature in the Sheets per booklet list

The only thing I can think of right now is that the check box Scale content for A4 or 8 1/2 x 11" paper sizes (Word Options, Advanced tab, scroll down to the Print section) might be cleared and selecting it might help. Your other best option is to post your question at answers.microsoft.com. It's possible someone else has encountered this issue.

Are you able to print other documents with narrower margins? I just want to confirm that this isn't a printer issue (although, if it were, I'd expect the text to just be cut off, unless Shrink to Fit is selected).

Any help appreciated.
