scream, scream scream!!! I'm doing the final formatting on my dissertation. I have been trying and trying, following all instructions, to get it so that I have a title page and then start numbering on the next page with 1. IT WON'T DO IT! I followed the instructions for breaks so that I have a new section, but it justs inserting a blank page and puts 1 on that! I then tried 'different first page' but it won't do that either, even though I have got different first page ticked, and just starts numbering on the title page. I've wasted enough time on this. I must be doing something wrong but have checked the instructions again and again. I've wasted enough time on this. I'm at my wits end! HELP!

I have a 20 page doc and I want no number on p. 1 & to start numbering from 1 on page 2. Although I have had lots of trouble with page numbering in Word 2010, I am totally stumped this time. I have a section break set up at the bottom of p. 1. I do the insert number on page 2 and it shows the 1. However, the subsequent papers have no numbers on them. There are no other section breaks after the one on the 1st page. How can I solve this problem and get pages 2-19 numbered sequentially?? Thanks

If I'm understanding your scenario correctly, it should work as long as those sections (section 3 to the end) are linked (the opposite of what I describe in the post). Just make sure that section 3 isn't linked to section 2.

getting more advanced I encountered another problem.

I need page x of y starting at section 3 for page x and this will number through right to the last section I want to include, however, I need page y also count through right to the end of section 6 and not restart to give only the pages per section. How can I do this.

To make it a bit clearer, I had to include more section as the page format changes from portrait to landscape and back. Is there maybe a possibility to use bookmarking and tell Word to count till that page?

Hi Marc,

One way to do that in Excel is to make copies of your worksheet in the same workbook, select them all, and then insert the page numbers in the header or footer of the worksheets (Insert tab, Text group, Header & Footer button). Keep all worksheets selected to print them. If each worksheet equals one printed page, this will number the worksheet sequentially the way you want.

Hi, I would like to know how to let excel add a page number on the page; however, it is only one page. So the page should print up page 1,2,3, ext. For example i print 20 pages of the some page i would like the page numbers to be different. Could you please help me. Marc

You can type "Page" but then you need to use the field code for the actual numbers. The instructions for which field codes you need to use and how to enter them are in this post.

If I have a document with multiple pages, and I go the footer and type 'Page 1 of 5', is there something I can do to get Word to automatically put 'Page 2 of 5', 'Page 3 of 5' etc on subsequent pages?

Is there something in the autocorrect options?
