I am working on a document that was created by somone else. When I create a second page, it automatically adds a header that is pre-populated with the page number, date and... I'm not sure how it is adding the name of who the letter is addressed to (e.g. John Smith, Attorney at Law"). That is not the name of the document, and I've looked through all of the Quickpart fields and there is nothing in them.

Any idea where or how this is getting in there?

I have a document with a header and footer. Footer contains Page # and total Pages on each page. I have section breaks to adjust for page layout changes. I can right click and pick page number format continue from previous section and that work for all but one section. I suspect because my section numbering goes from 1 to 3. Not sure where section 2 disappeared to. Any ideas how to fix this other than manually starting the one section on the correct page? I don't want to have to remember to check page number everytime the document comes up for review & revision.

can word make a feature that "dims the lights" (darkens) everything around the page you're typing on? And you can modify the opacity of that darkening? It'd be nice to isolate the page on my screen, then just type away. I came up with this idea because I'm about to try my hand at creative writing and I don't need everything around the actual page to write creatively, in fact it's bothersome.

Help! I am trying to create a cover page with APA format which requires adding "Running Header" and then the running header title but when I do this on the cover page it carries over to each page. I only need "running header" on the cover page. How do I have a different header on the cover page only and then the same header through the rest of the document?

I am writing a paper and made a cover page. Now every time I try to add a blank page or hit enter to move to another page, it just copies my cover page over and pver. What am I doing wrong? HELP!!!!

I've done all that Joannie however the header and footer are only on the first page the other pages have the space for a header and footer but it didn't carry on. HELP Please

After you type your header press the Tab key to get to the right side of the page. Then click Page Number, click Current Position, and click the numbering style that you want.

Yes and no. Yes, you can create a template with your company name and contact information by adding them to a blank document and then saving it as a Word template. You can then open the template to create a new doc, and your information is already there.

But you can't add a template to an existing document.

So your best bet is to create the new template and then open that when you want to create a document with those headers and footers.

is it possible to create a header and footer with my company name and contact information, then save them as a template so that i can add them to whatever documents i happen to be working on that i need them for?

Click the Header command in the Ribbon (Insert tab) and then click Remove Header. Or use Document Inspector (video here: blogs.office.com/.../remove-headers-and-footers.aspx).
