And it's a problem for some of our customers. Or it's a few problems. We're going to take a look at two of those persistent issues.

re: Word of the week: TOC (changing levels and formatting)

Learnin new things. The headings and page numbers all match well. But, when I look at the Navigation pane and "Browse the headings in your document" extra codes are visible. When I convert my Word document to a .pdf, the extra codes are visible in my .pdf bookmarks. For Example: 0B0B1BTable of Contents; 1B1B2BIntroduction. What generates these codes and how can I get rid of them?

I received a document for review (created by someone else). I make some changes in the content (not the styles). When I update the TOC it gets damage. Looks like the styles in my machine are standard but the document creator used his own custom styles.

Should I replicated the creator styles in my machine?

How can I know which styles he used? (he is no longer working with us)

Let me see if I understand: You want the table of contents to display numbers formatted in the same way that they are in the header or footer; you don't want all the numbers changed to Arabic format. Correct?

If so, I'm having a hard time reproducing your issue (my table of contents is showing the mixture of formats). Which version of Word are you using?

Some pages within the document are numbered arabic (1, 2, 3...) and some are lower-case roman numerals (i, ii, iii...). Page numbers displayed in footers are correct. Page numbers in the TOC all display as arabic. I had this working properly once before but can't remember how I did it. Does anyone know how to set this up?
