Earlier, we posted a video on making a booklet in Word 2007.
Now, let's take a look at Word 2010.
In the document that you want to print as a booklet, click the Page Layout tab and then click the Page Setup Dialog Box Launcher.
In the dialog box, in the Multiple pages list, click Book fold.
If you want to print separate signatures that can later be bound into one book, click the number of pages that you want in each signature in the Sheets per booklet list.Adjust the margins and, if you want, specify a margin for the gutter (so that your words don't get swallowed by the binding in the middle of a thick book).Click OK.If you want to have odd and even headers or footers--for example, if you want the page number on the outside corner of every page--double-click in the header or footer, and then click the Different Odd & Even Pages check box in the Options group.
Now you'll add those page numbers or headers and footers separately--one for the odd pages and one for the even pages. If you've already added a page number or a header or footer, you'll need to add it again on an even page.If your booklet includes sections that aren't linked, select the Different Odd and Even Pages check box and add the page number, header, or footer for each section in your booklet.Now, click the File tab, and then click Print. If your printer supports double-sided printing, click the Print on Both Sides option that has the correct paper-flipping edge--quite likely the short edge.
If your printer supports manual duplex printing, click Manually Print on Both Sides, and then make sure that you flip the pages the right way (again, probably on the short edge).

This is great, however the page orientation changes to landscape. Is there a way to keep the page orientation portrait. I'd like the pages to be 11 high and 8 inches wide. Bascially a narrow book. Thanks in advance.

The orientation switches to landscape so that you can have the book fold. To make pages that are 8 1/2" wide x 11" high, you can use 11"x17" paper, or you can omit the bookfold option, print double-sided, and bind your booklet a different way.

I'm having the same issue as one of the guys here...
Set the page as 'book fold' and when you hit print Word simply crashes. Change it back to normal and it prints without a hitch....
No warnings, errors, options to send error to Microsoft - just a complete no-warning crash and restart of Outlook...
Help here would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem as does mattquinn. Printer is HP PhotoSmart C4280 All-in-one. 83 page phonebook
I have a Word 10 document, set up as a booklet as recommended. Print preview is fine - everything is where it should be, but when I print (with recommended settings) pages which contain objects (photos, clip art) are printed over the top of another page [page 4 is printed over the top of page 13]. I have tried all sorts of print setting combinations, but I cannot get this to print properly. Interestingly, I have tried to PDF the document and the PDF created is exactly as it is printed, so it seems to be a Word problem, not a printing issue. All assistance will be greatfully accepted!

We're trying to figure this out. To confirm: Are you saying that it prints fine (the way you want it) in PDF but it's broken in Word? That will help us investigate the issue.
The PDF is also incorrect i.e. the PDF document 'looks' just like the printed Word document - pictures and clip art are printed on the wrong pages and some pages print over the top of another.
Did you originally create your document in the usual way and then switch to book fold formatting? We're thinking that maybe the objects in the document are retaining some previous positioning information. You can check the positioning by selecting an image and looking on the ribbon or by right-clicking and then clicking the Format option on the shortcut menu.
