  • I didn't realzie it before, but if you change the default printer WHILE you have the Office Print UI showing, it even changes there "real time" - pretty cool.

  • I hadn't noticed that either, but I just tried it. Yes, pretty cool! Thanks, Robert.

  • Now if we could always have enough ink....

  • ...and it didn't cost so much!

  • Thank you. So simple to do but quite hard to actually find your guidance.

  • Thank You! Helpful. That guy is lagit.

  • Thank you. This video was helpful.

  • Brilliant, thank you! Just what I was looking for.

  • I have selected my default printer, but Word is still choosing a different printer when I go to print envelopes, and there's no dropdown to change the printer selection there.  How do I send the envelopes to the default printer?

  • Karen, what version of Office and what version of Windows are you running?

  • Simple and direct to the point.

  • I am not able to open the video, could you please have the direction in text version.

  • Wonderful! My life is now worth living....

  • How do you change printers just for Word 2010.  I do not need that printer for my other applications.  Otherwise I might have to dig out my IBM Selectric.

  • @jreavill

If you want to change the printer just for Word 2010, you'll want to choose the printer from the dropdown in the backstage each time you print. You can see this at about ten seconds into the video.

I'm afraid you can't have a default printer in Word that's different from your other applications. The default printer is a system-wide setting in Windows.
