Updated! Office Web Apps now on Windows Live

(This post comes courtesy of our friends at the Office Web Apps blog.)

We are excited to announce that today Office Web Apps are available on Windows Live. The initial release is available to Windows Live customers in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland with support for English, Spanish (USA) and French (Canada). More languages and locales will be added over the coming months.

This release includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote. The ability to edit Word documents and open OneNote notebooks is included. Not only do we want you to try these web apps, we also really want to hear what you think. Please use the feedback links in the web apps.

We’ll have more to share early next week when Office 2010 is released to consumers, including how Office 2010 + SkyDrive + Office Web Apps give you a great experience across the PC, phone and browser.

Check out Office Web Apps on Windows Live and read the Windows Live Announcement.

  • Hello Wordteam, I have a big problem with the Word 2010 RTM Version. When I type text in it sometimes disappear at the end of the page in layout view. Its randomly but it can be reproduced. I have made a screencast in wmv-Format to demonstrate it (5 minutes ca. 25 MB). Is there a way to contact you? Or to upload the video somewhere to show you the problem? The Version of Word is14.0.4760.1000 32-bit german. Sincerely yours

    Sebastian

  • This in unrelated but I could not figure out how to comment on a previous post. In relation to the post about equation numbering, it was very easy to follow and I appreciate the tutorial. (blogs.msdn.com/.../equation-numbering.aspx). My question relates to cross referencing. I would like to say something along the lines of "in equation (1) below" and have the (1) part match the equation number in the table. Unfortunately when I cross-reference, the only way to see my equation numbers is to select 'Reference Type:' Numbered item, and then my only options to 'Insert Reference Number to:' are a paragraph number, page number, text and a few variations of this. All of the options result in a '0' instead of a '(1)' being inserted. Could you please help or write another quick tutorial? Thanks.

  • @5foot3:

You could mark the formula number with the mouse and create a textmark of this peace of text. Choose a good name for the textmark and then reference to this textmark (Reference Type: textmark). That's the way i do it. Sincerely yours Sebastian

  • I know that this is not the best place to post this, but can you add a placeholder like the Field "Advance" that will adjust it's size so that the text after it gets as more to the right side of the page as possible ? This would be a great way to put equation numbers at the right side of the page without the tables suggested in another of your blog posts (blogs.msdn.com/.../equation-numbering.aspx).

This would also help to align the footer page numbers, etc...

Is there sth like that already ?

  • About Word 2007:

    - It also seems that Word is leaking memory since it requires too much of it after some time...

    - Also, references to equations sometimes get invalid after you insert new equations, and an error message is displayed instead of the reference. I really don't get it how this happens if you use a static id for each equation...

    - It would also be nice if you added the "argmin" and "argmax" functions in the function list. They are vital and cannot be easily created from the existing templates.

    - When I try to edit a Field like the "Title" the value of it is NOT displayed in the textbox (it is only displayed in the Document Properties page).

    - If you could support a way to draw in 2D and 3D using code (not necessarily the same that LATEX uses) it would be nice ! :D (Just in case sth is still the same in Word 2010...)

  • Details on the above error report: The missing text in layout view is visible in Design view, outline view and read mode. To temporarily correct the misconduct in layout view you have to open the dialog box ‘page setup’ and close it without modification by clicking on OK. If the error recurs later it can be fixed again by opening the ‘page setup’-window. I think the error description of the knowledge base article 837004 for word 2003 is exact the problem I have with word 2010: “In a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document, when you change views or scroll the document, text that should appear on the last line of a page may jump to the next page, may jump back to the previous page, or may intermittently not show on either page.” It would be nice to get any feedback, that you read this message. Thank you

    Sebastian
