Quick Co-Authoring Video

A few weeks back we talked about co-authoring in pretty good depth (Word: Co-authoring – Where we are Coming From & Word: Co-authoring (i.e. Simultaneous Editing) in Word 2010).

If you want something a bit more high-level that covers co-authoring in not only Word, but also in PowerPoint and OneNote 2010 here's a three minute overview video.

We'd love to know what you think of it.

  • Lotsa talk ...and then you throw in Sharepoint ...hmmmm

  • Why is word 2007's help file so incomplete? I was trying to learn about cross-referencing in the captions box, but the entry in the helpfile on captions says NOTHING about cross referencing. It really upsets me that you release an application like this without decent, alphabetically indexed documentation describing each of the options. Shame on you and your team

  • It says that it works on Windows Live, too. Is the experience the exact same? ie. syncronizing changes when save option is selected? Also, I notice the save to Windows Live is not available currently. When can we expect this option to be available?

  • Hi Clouxles and Eric - Co-authoring works the same on both the new release of SharePoint and Windows Live. I’ll provide an update as to when the Windows Live support will be available as soon as I can. Stay tuned. - Jonathan Bailor (MS)

  • word art in excel is pastable in other apps but word's word art looses it quality when pasted inspect document is broken in word.word crashes once its clicked the mouse over preview shown when a shape effect is applied to a single shape in a smartart is misleading. The preview shows the effect beign applied to the whole smartart where as it will only be applied to one shape after it's clicked . When the size of a SINGLE shape in a smartart is changed , other shapes also change (size ,layout and text size within the shape) unpredictably. This makes it impossible to custoimze shapes within smartart .This is prominently seen in the basic block list and most other smartart

  • My inference is the co-authoring won't work on other than SharePoint 2010 or Windows Live despite the OneNote 2007 simultaneous authoring working from either MOSS 2007 or a network drive. Am I right?

  • Hi Dan - Co-Authoring is only supported on the new release of SharePoint and Windows Live. - Jonathan Bailor (MS)

  • Nice explanation, but the lack of actual screenshots/screencasts leaves me thinking it's vaporware. (Whether or not this is true- if I'm seeing wireframe mockups or photoshopped screenshots, I assume the code isn't ready for end-users and probably isn't written yet.)

  • I’m using Word 2010 Beta, and I’m curious to use this great feature, but I don't fully understand the steps required for starting to co-author with others. Can you help me and explain how should I start please? Thanks in advance

  • Hi mona.anter – Once you get a file on SharePoint 2010 (or Windows Live in the future) simply open the document from two instances of Word 2010. - Jonathan Bailor (MS)
