It's interesting to see the way that the second image in this post is used to communicate a horizontal extension of the space rather than what many of my clients see as a reduction in height! Only time will tell...

But, and this is a big but. this additional dimension to managing multiple versions of content is challenging for designers, content authors, presenters and the organisations they serve.

It would make more sense to have one version of the content (a single file) that supported two chosen aspect ratios, once being the default. In that way, the content author would build content in the default aspect ratio and PowerPoint would apply its intelligent algorithm to create the second, managing only a set of positioning and size data with respect to the aspect master. The author could then tweak the 2nd view that PowerPoint created and thereby have both target projections available within a single file which could by dynamically switched when the presenter plugs in to present. Without this, content authors are forced to manage two files, one for each aspect ratio, or compromise on design as they dynamically switch from one view to another based on the projection equipment they are faced with at the time of presenting.

Presentations are all about preparation but few presenters that present in a sales environment at client premises know what kind of projector they are going to face.

So it's (a) unrealistic to expect companies to build pairs of presentations and (b) unrealistic to expect travelling presenters to know in advance what they will need (c) a big compromise to be switching dynamically between unoptimised designs or deal with black bars.

'Dual View' would be a highly valuable addition to the ever more valuable PowerPoint :-)
