In the text of my post I explained how create that slide, but the lack of clear, visual step by step instructions may have obscured just how easy it is to create slides like that in PowerPoint 2007

re: Picture Layouts Explained

We also can't edit objects like AutoCAD drawings after importing them, or change colors in clip art and imported objects. All of these are functions I used constantly. I am VERY disappointed with PPT 07!

It frustrates me that MS didn't want to keep up with the standards to make this continue to work. For what Office costs, the least they could do is keep at least the same functionality. I think we have lost many more features than were added in this version. Come on, guys! It is supposed to be getting easier to use.

It has been a very useful quick and simple tool. Is it likely that this feature could be avaliable as a addin?

Word was my default application for doing quick scanning. I could just import, make a few format changes and print. I never had any trouble with scanners not working with Word. I'm a consultant, and used it as my default app when testing scanners. Word loaded very quickly, and was easy. Very disappointed with this being excluded. Steve Ford

This was a difficult call, but I think for the best of the product overall. The feature supported a limited number of scanners and the camera support had not been updated for some time. We came to the conclusion that most users would be better off using the software that came with their camera, scanner or even built into Windows, to get their images from their device, to the file system, and then use the Insert Picture command to get them into Office. The downside, is that for some users, this feature did work and so will be missed.

(I've had a couple of questions about this and for some it is taking the gloss off a great product.)
