Quickly convert text or pictures to a SmartArt graphic

Bulleted list converted to a SmartArt graphicRecently, I posted about Cliff Atkinson and the importance of moving beyond text bullet points.

But what if you've got a bunch of text-based slides that you use over and over, for different presentations? Do you have to spend a lot of time changing all of them to make them more visually interesting? Not at all.

With the Convert to SmartArt feature available in PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2010, you can change a plain, bulleted slide into a stunning, professionally-designed SmartArt graphic with the click of a button.

And in PowerPoint 2010 you can even convert pictures into a SmartArt graphic.

  • Do you allow personalality into the show?

  • Hi John,

I don't quite understand your question. Could you please expand on your comment? Thanks!

  • Very nice feature indeed

  • Mike2k,

Thanks, these are 2 of my favorite PowerPoint features as well!

  • John,

I’ve been thinking about your comment. Assuming you’re asking how to let your personality shine through your presentation or how to put your personal stamp on a presentation, that’s an excellent idea to explore in a future blog post. Maybe other people have some suggestions or tips on doing this. I know we’ve all sat through presentations that would been far more effective if the presenter and the presentation had let more personality show through. SmartArt graphics can help convey personality via the text you choose, the layout, colors and style. Here’s an article that somewhat address your question that you may find interesting: Speaking Visually: Eight Roles Pictures Play in Presentation.(office.microsoft.com/.../HA010361422.aspx)
