PowerPoint 2010 has new features that can help bring your stories to life and make your messages more compelling. We’ve even included sample templates to give you ideas, including some tips from Duarte Design. We approached Nancy Duarte after she gave a talk at our campus with the idea of creating a cinematic presentation, especially for you. Working with her team was such a treat, and it was great to see how they took advantage of the capabilities of PowerPoint 2010 to create an amazingly effective presentation.
Once you download the Microsoft Office 2010 Public Beta, you can get your own copy of Duarte’s Five Rules for Creating Great Presentations. Click on the File tab, and you’ll find the presentation in Sample Templates under the New tab.
Here’s a sneak peak video that was created with our brand new video export feature. You’ll want to turn up your speakers for this one:
Read more about this presentation on the Duarte blog.
Enjoy!

This template is not included in the German version of PowerPoint. And the Link in the comments on the Duarte-Blog produces an error ("This service is unavailable"). Can you please provide this presentation for non-American PowerPoint-users, too? Thank you.
Hi Ute, This template is only included in the English version, but you can download it here officebeta.microsoft.com/.../duartes-five-rules-presentation-TC101674555.aspx.
Hi there, this link should hopefully work better: officebeta.microsoft.com/.../duartes-five-rules-presentation-TC101674555.aspx
what happens if you load this template in ppt 2007? does it work? How is the backward compatibility of presentations?
Hi Alessandra, Loading this template in PPT 2007 will work except for the Bounce End animations that are new in PPT 2010. Give it a try!
Hi. I purchased Windows 7 x64 and Power Point Viewer doesn't work. Any version. Is there any free viewer available that runs in W7x64? Thanks.
@kmint - Have you installed the Office 2010 Beta on that machine? I'd expect our PowerPoint 2007 viewer to install and work. Any details on the error messages you're getting?(Link to 2007 Viewer: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx) Feel free to email me at allhuan AT microsoft DOT com if you can share these details. Thanks,
AllHuan
Wow! That does make us want to know 'the rest of the story'. Nice job! Fred
Why can't we play videos BEHIND an active presentation like the TV shows do?
@Bob Michaels - In PowerPoint 2010, you will be able to play videos behind the active presentation. Although you won't be able to set the video as the background, any video you put on your slide masters/slide layouts, or just behind other shapes will STAY behind everything else. Let us know if you run into problems with this.
Will presentations with embedded video be backwards compatible? Thanks.
@Eric Gatz- If you save your presentation to the .pptx (Open XML) format, you will be able to play an embedded video without effects in PowerPoint 2007 with SP2. However, if your presentation is saved to the .ppt (binary) format, the videos will be saved as pictures you and won't be able to play them in versions earlier than PowerPoint 2010.
