PowerPoint 2010 Technical Preview

Technical Preview Program

PowerPoint fans and community, we’re excited to announce that the PowerPoint team will be taking applications to participate in the Office 2010 Technical Preview program. We will be sending out a limited number of invitations to download and install the Office 2010 Technical Preview in early July.

For you, this is a first opportunity to experience the new, exciting features that we’ve been working on in PowerPoint. For us, this is an opportunity to get valuable feedback and early testing on PowerPoint 2010 that will directly impact our public beta later this year. We want testers of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds; so long as you use PowerPoint, we’d love to have you give us a test drive.

If you’re interested, go here to sign up for Microsoft Connect and apply to be part of the Technical Preview. When asked, select PowerPoint as the application you’re most interested in testing (Question 13 on the survey). Thank you for signing up and helping us test out our latest creations!

  • @GlenBowden - Can I ask you to send me your file, and I'll take a look to see what's going on. You can send me an email at AllHuan AT microsoft DOT com. Any information you can include about your computer would also be helpful. Thanks for commenting!

  • i am having the same playback problem. i create the video file from a powerpoint presentation and it lacks audio. it plays fine as a pp file, but no audio when a wmv file. i have tried this on three different computers, two desktops and a laptop all with the same results so i doubt it is a setting or driver. any idea what i can do to fix it?

  • by the way, my audio files are songs, mp3s. four to be exact, and approx 80 slides, so my file size is pretty big.

  • @mike - Mike, have you tried running the "Optimize compatibility" command from under the File area? Give that a try and let us know how it goes. If that doesn't work, feel free to send me an email (allhuan AT microsoft DOT com) with a way to access your file. We're very interested in trying to figure out what's wrong here, and that's the best way for us to diagnose. Thanks!

  • yes i tried that and reran the process without success. i would send you the file but it's 125 mb. any suggestions on a way to send it? it's too big to attach to an email. thanks

    mike

  • @mike - Can you try YouSendIt(yousendit.com) or Windows Live SkyDrive (skydrive.live.com)?

  • i sent you a link to the file and hope you are able to find a solution. this has driven me crazy

  • @mike - I sent you back an email. We don't support saving out sounds associated with the transition to video. The best way to do what you're looking for is to insert the sound directly to the slide. I emailed you back your slides with an updated file. Let me know if that works for you! Sorry for any frustration!

  • Allen,

thanks. i got the file. i see you inserted the audio. i used the share feature to create a video file again but still no audio? the process is pretty straight forward from the menu prompts so i can't believe it's possible for the user/me to be doing something in the wrong order is there? i am going to try it on a different machine today and will let you know the outcome. thanks

  • @mike: I tried to create the video, and it seems to work okay. I sent you an email with the created video. Your problem seems to be either version-specific (in which case, we've fixed it) or machine-specific. We'll keep investigating, but do keep us posted if you find it works on a different computer. Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated.

  • I have downloaded but yet installed the Office beta. Does PowerPoint 2010 now allow a video to be played with text and other PowerPoint objects on top of it? I would like to use video backgrounds with slide content on top. Looking forward to your response. Thank you, Michael

  • @PresMech - Yes, you'll be able to layer shapes/text and other content on top of videos now in PowerPoint 2010. Thanks for your comment, Michael!

  • I am trying to make a video from a PowerPoint 2010 presentation that has a looping sound file - .wav format. When I play the video, the sound stops midway through the second slide. I've tried .mid sound files, but they don't play at all in the video. Any suggestions would be really appreciated:)
