With Microsoft Outlook 2010, you can stay connected beyond just e-mail messages. Sending and receiving text messages (SMS) in Microsoft Outlook 2010 is a convenient way to send a quick note to say you are running late, a reminder to a co-worker, or just to say Happy New Year!
With text messaging in Outlook 2010, you can also forward your upcoming Outlook schedule or important e-mail messages directly to your mobile device as a text message — a great way to stay connected when you are on the go.
Getting Started
There are two ways to set up text messaging in Outlook 2010. The easiest way is with a Windows phone running 6.1 with an update or 6.5, and connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 account. With this setup, your text messages are synchronized from Outlook to your mobile device for sending. As an added bonus, messages that you receive are synchronized back to Outlook for easy reading in your Inbox.
If you don’t have a Windows phone or an Exchange 2010 account, you can still configure text messaging in Outlook 2010 by signing up for a third-party service that sends text messages on your behalf. These services charge a nominal fee for message delivery, but there is a free trial period so you can try it out before you subscribe. Although the use of a third-party messaging service requires more initial setup, after connected, you can then send texts from the convenience of your computer. No longer will you be hunched over a tiny phone trying to add all of those addresses from your phone book just to say “Be there in 10.”

After looking through many forums I see many questions concerning the status of BCM 2010 RTM. Where is the BCM team? A simple update as to the progress of the RTM version would be greatly appreciated! Is there anyone out there who knows how to contact this team to let them know the concerns of customers who have committed to Outlook 2010 but who do not have a compatible version of BCM? HELLLLLP
perhaps it has been forgotten to mention that WMDC in the WIN 7 64bit version is incompatible with Office 2010 64bit, MS not willing to update WMDC accordingly, and thus there sync is not working...
charles; why are you asking a question that has no relevance to the topic? You would not ask an Excel question in a powerpoint forum, right? Ask the question in a relevant forum, then you would get a higher chanse to get a proper reply. Regards,

Robert, I consider BCM to be a vital part of Outlook. The BCM forums provide no response as to RTM. I thought that maybe someone out there could contact the BCM team and let them know that this is a widespread concern. Thanks for your response, Charles
I'm in total agreement with regards to the RTM version of BCM. A simple amount of communication goes a long way. A blog post takes what, 5 minutes?
I was curious is it possible to have all the SMS journaled since they will be synced with your inbox. Working in investment banks all of our Blackberry SMS are archieve per law. Just curious if that is possible, havent had much time to test out SMS in my lab "YET". Thanks
@Lucas, thanks for the question and suggestion. Email to SMS gateways are not available on every carrier worldwide, and they require you to know what network the recipient is on. Teleflip closed down a while back, but that’s an interesting suggestion. Additionally, using an email-to-SMS gateway only works one-way; you cannot receive replies to a message you send. Does anyone know how many people use SMS from Outlook? There is a potential use of Outlook as a regulation tool specially when it comes to SMS messages. Today, a server to store and archive SMS messages would be a whole added product which will require investment and operation. SMS in Outlook is a wonderful new feature. >> I don't get all the BCM/RTM bickering. It seems like users do not appreciate the amount of work it takes to write, test and release applications. As if the Microsoft engineers are sitting around sipping coffee on the beach (or is it margaritas on the west coast?)

Clamr! 2010 also allows you to text, call and check voicemail messages from Outlook 2010. No extra server application, etc. Just need a Google Voice account. Check it out at http://www.clamr.com.
