You're a rogue, a character, a one-of-a-kind. You care for neither paper nor plastic (as if).
So maybe, when you open up Outlook for the day, you don't WANT mail to show up first. Why paint yourself into a corner, answering all those mails right away when you don't have to? Maybe you need to ease into your work day.
Lucky for you, you can start Outlook showing your Calendar, Contacts, or Tasks (or even Notes or Journal) or anything else in Outlook you feel like seeing first thing. If there's one thing I'm known for, it's not settling, and maybe it's time you shouldn't either.
In Outlook 2010:
1. Click the File menu, then Options, and then in the left column, click Advanced.2. In the right pane, under Outlook Start and Exit, click Browse and then choose what folder you want Outlook to show you first: Calendar, Contacts, SharePoint Lists, RSS feeds, or any of your other folders
In Outlook 2007 & 2003:
Pretty simple right? And if you want Outlook to open right away to your Junk Mail folder who am I to tell you that is kind of nutty and off the charts weird? Again, you're your own person and you should start your day at your computer exactly as you want to.

Nice tip, Annik.
Good to remind us that some default Outlook actions can actually be modified.
As a result, I changed mine from Inbox to Mailbox, to get a "big picture" view of Outlook when it starts up (calendar, messages, tasks).
Thanks,
Gil
I hope that in the near future, Outlook will be able to create recurring meetings that are dependent on other meetings. For example, I routinely need to set up pre-meetings for our President with his managers a few days before he meets with the CEO, being able to set up a meeting with this criteria "Friday before the 3rd Monday of every month" would be very benefitial to myself and many other Administrative Assistants.
Hey folks.....could someone on the Outlook team let us know when the Outlook connector will be updated to sync up TASKS now that TASK sync is in the Mango update......will the Connector be ready when Mango hits so we can start getting a professional level sync to all of our data.
I also got an email from Joe Belfiore VP MS Phone System , after I emailed him asking when the USB sync to our desktop Outlook would be brought back as many are asking for it rather than this cloud kludge. He said it was coming....but after Mango. Anyone have a time frame for the USB sync to desktop like we used to have and iPhone has already to MS own Outlook....?
Gil - Glad I could help!
Cmaccall: I think that would be a really neat feture and I'll pass your comment onto the the Outlook program management team. Thanks for taking the time to write in.
bricko: Let me pass on your message to Joe and maybe he'll write back to me and I'll hae an answer for you!
