In our continued effort to improve the quality of the connection between Windows Live Hotmail and Microsoft Outlook, we have released an update for the Outlook Hotmail Connector.
The main addition in this update is the support of the HTTPS protocol for all communication between Microsoft Outlook and Windows Live Hotmail, Calendar, and Contacts. Using a connection with HTTPS, helps you be even more confident that your account is safer from hijackers, and that your private information remains private. HTTPS is a standard for sensitive Internet content, and you’ll find it commonly used by banks, online merchants, and email providers such as Hotmail. HTTPS uses a certificate on the server to make sure that your computer is communicating with the intended server.
To start to use HTTPS with your Hotmail account, install the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. No other changes are required in Outlook or on the Windows Live site.
Additionally, this update addresses reliability issues reported by users like you.
As a side note, we have listened to your feedback on our version terminology — we previously referred to each release with an incremental version such as “14.1” or “14.2”. However, the version information for the Outlook Hotmail Connector continued to use a 14.0.XXXX.YYYY version system. Beginning with this release, we’ll refer to each release exclusively by its version number found in the “About Outlook Hotmail Connector” dialog box. The version number for this update is 14.0.6106.5001. To determine which version is installed on your computer, see the end of this article.
Here is an overview of the changes in this update:
Overall
Calendar
We fixed the following issues:
Mail
Contacts
We recommend that users download this updated version of the Connector. However, for now, this is an optional update and you can continue to use your current version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. When this update becomes required, you’ll see a notification in Outlook.
To manually install the Outlook Hotmail Connector, do the following:
For Outlook 2010, Office Outlook 2007, or Office Outlook 2003 32-bit:
Outlook Hotmail Connector for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 32-bit
For Outlook 2010 64-bit:
Outlook Hotmail Connector for Outlook 2010 64-bit
The version appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version is equal to or higher than 14.0.6106.5001, the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector is installed.
On behalf of the entire Outlook Hotmail Connector team, thanks for trying the new Outlook Hotmail Connector!

Ever since installing the updated connector several days ago I've had these errors:
Task 'zzzz@hotmail.com' reported error (0x8004103A) : 'Synchronization error.'
Task 'zzzz@hotmail.com' reported error (0x8004102A) : 'Error with Send/Receive. There was an error synchronizing your folder hierarchy. The network connection is unavailable or interrupted. Please try again later.'
Task 'zzzz@hotmail.com' reported error (0x80004005) : 'Network operation failed'
No problem with my regular pop account or my Office 365 account. The problem is only with the new version of the hotmail connector.
Will you please stop forcing version upgrades on users? This is just like how Live Messenger forces upgrades on users. Please let us sync with an older version if we want and not force upgrades.
Same problems here with my @live.de account here. Same error messages. Although email-sending and -receiving with this account still works.
Same problem here. I have deleted all cookies, temporary files and junk files, which has made no difference whatsoever. If you can't push out a fix in the next 24 hours or so, can we please revert to the old version for the time being?
Still not working!
Dont't tell us it is a transient problem, it is clearly not!
Outlook team: I want to get a clear answer ASAP when this mess will be cleared!
Harry
Guys I found a fix for this for the time being...
After hours of searching, I found that the main .dll file that makes outlook connector 64-bit work is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\MSNCON32.dll
If you right click the file and choose properties then choose the details tab you will see this is the 14.0.6106.5001 version.
On another pc I still had version 14.0.5139.5001 MSNCON32.dll file and copied it over to my PC that was having this issue. After I loaded Outlook 2010, Send/Receive was fast and the limited connection and send/receive errors went away instantly.
I renamed my MSMAPI folder to .old for now hoping Microsoft will fix this .dll file
If possible I may be able to upload my .dll if someone can provide me a website to upload it to.
Thanks,
Anthony
I meant to say I renamed my MSNCON32.dll file to .old and copied over my older .dll into this same folder...
@ToniT:
soory, that seemed to be a good idea, but it does not work for the 32-bit version (German locale). It immediately requires me to update, and if I decline it tells me no more new e-mails, and gives a connection error.
@ Outlook Team: I am really po'd! Get your stuff together and post a means to resolve this issue soonest.
Sorry Harry :( I am using the 64 bit version only...
@ Harry Richter: It worked for me for the 32-bit german version (Outlook 2010, Windows 7 64-bit)
This is just unbelievable! Same Error here. Win7 64bit, Outlook 2010 32bit, Connector 32bit. It is still not possible to sync the calender. When will it be fixed?
Is anyone able to provide me the old MSNCON32.dll file via email? ryansimmons@live.com.au
Thanks!
Exact same problem here. Win7 64bit, Outlook 32bit.
@ Simmo3D: If You receive the .dll from someone, can You make it available for all of us?
...making this version available to all of us is the least Microsoft could do!
I am expecting a post in this direction from the Outlook team ASAP!
