In our continued effort to improve the quality of the connection between Windows Live Hotmail and Microsoft Outlook, we have released an update for the Outlook Hotmail Connector.
The main addition in this update is the support of the HTTPS protocol for all communication between Microsoft Outlook and Windows Live Hotmail, Calendar, and Contacts. Using a connection with HTTPS, helps you be even more confident that your account is safer from hijackers, and that your private information remains private. HTTPS is a standard for sensitive Internet content, and you’ll find it commonly used by banks, online merchants, and email providers such as Hotmail. HTTPS uses a certificate on the server to make sure that your computer is communicating with the intended server.
To start to use HTTPS with your Hotmail account, install the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. No other changes are required in Outlook or on the Windows Live site.
Additionally, this update addresses reliability issues reported by users like you.
As a side note, we have listened to your feedback on our version terminology — we previously referred to each release with an incremental version such as “14.1” or “14.2”. However, the version information for the Outlook Hotmail Connector continued to use a 14.0.XXXX.YYYY version system. Beginning with this release, we’ll refer to each release exclusively by its version number found in the “About Outlook Hotmail Connector” dialog box. The version number for this update is 14.0.6106.5001. To determine which version is installed on your computer, see the end of this article.
Here is an overview of the changes in this update:
Overall
Calendar
We fixed the following issues:
Mail
Contacts
We recommend that users download this updated version of the Connector. However, for now, this is an optional update and you can continue to use your current version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. When this update becomes required, you’ll see a notification in Outlook.
To manually install the Outlook Hotmail Connector, do the following:
For Outlook 2010, Office Outlook 2007, or Office Outlook 2003 32-bit:
Outlook Hotmail Connector for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 32-bit
For Outlook 2010 64-bit:
Outlook Hotmail Connector for Outlook 2010 64-bit
The version appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version is equal to or higher than 14.0.6106.5001, the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector is installed.
On behalf of the entire Outlook Hotmail Connector team, thanks for trying the new Outlook Hotmail Connector!

I downloaded the new Connector, and now I receive multiple errors:
Task '-@-.com' reported error (0x8004103A) : 'Synchronization error.'
Task '-@-.com' reported error (0x8004102A) : 'Error with Send/Receive. There was an error synchronizing your folder hierarchy. The network connection is unavailable or interrupted. Please try again later.'
Task '-@-.com' reported error (0x80004005) : 'Network operation failed' when doing a Send/Receive
I was not receiving these errors with the previous version of Outlook Connector. What do I need to do to correct these errors? Thank you in advance.
I have the same issue as Brandon ... what is the fix?
Hi Brandon. What are you seeing is a transient error that can appear the first time you use the latest version of OLC, as
the old cookies are expired and OLC will report that these old cookies failed and we're trying with new ones. As I said, this is a temporary error and will stop appearing once the version of OLC starts connecting using HTTPS.

Thank you for continuing to support the Outlook Hotmail Connector.
One feature I'd really like to see added is task synchronization. With Windows Phone Mango now supporting Windows Live to-dos, task synchronization with Outlook is a must. I'm a heavy user of tasks in Outlook, but I am unable to access my tasks on Windows Live or Windows Phone. I'd be very grateful if you could add task/to-do sync to the Outlook Hotmail Connector. Thanks!
@Alessio Roic
I get the same error messages as Brandon and Outlook tells me that there is Limited Connectivity (a yellow triangle in the right bottom corner).
Are these errors only be supposed to appear the first time you connect with the new version or can it take a while before they disappear (that part i didn't understand in your posting), because i connected several times and i still receive them.
@ Outlook Team:
You wrote "What are you seeing is a transient error that can appear the first time you use the latest version of OLC,..."
What do you consider "transient"? My computer is now online for more than 24 hours, but the error stays the same! I have tried: restarting Win7 (32 bit), restarting Outlook.
Please help! Is there a way to clear out the old cookies and force new ones?
Harry
I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, rebooted after each. Deleted all cookies. Still have limited connectivity and send/receive error. Help please?
Hi Alessio, et al:
Specifically, it's the connection to sync.calendar.live.com which keeps failing (HTTP/1.0 504 Connection Failed, according to Fiddler). The mail connection succeeds.

I'm having the same issue as Brandon. This started after updating to Office 2010 SP1 and the new connector. I've uninstalled the updates and reinstalled. Removed the live account and readded. Created a new profile. Ran a Disk Cleanup to remove all temp files, cookies, etc. Same errors every time with a message at the bottom "Limited Connectivity". The only thing that's not synching is the Calendar. This has been going on for about 24 hours.
I am running Windows 7 64bit. I see you've commented that this will resolve itself eventually...with the removal of the cookies. When's eventually? I've been experiencing this since yesterday. Can we remove the cookies manually?
Hello all,
thanks for reporting this issue. We have been investigating it with our partners in Windows Live, and so far we have been tracing it back to an intermittent server connectivity issue that is hitting a few users. We are still investigating it. In the meantime, I suggest you report the issue on answers.microsoft.com/.../forum where you can get free support from expert users and microsoft specialists as well. We will publish an answer once the issue has been clarified.
Thanks
