New Outlook Hotmail Connector released

We've got good news for those of you who read your Windows Live Hotmail accounts in Outlook. We have released an update to the Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector. This update brings a number of fixes and is required to continue using Hotmail accounts in Outlook.

The version number for the updated Hotmail Connector is 14.0.5139.5001. To determine which version is installed on your computer, see the end of this article.

Here is an overview of changes in this update:

  • Several send/receive issues are fixed.
  • The Outlook junk email filter within Outlook is turned off for Hotmail accounts (this was erroneously flagging good mail as junk). Junk messages are now detected at the Hotmail mail server. Any entries you made in Outlook for the junk email filters (Safe Senders, Blocked Senders, and Safe Recipients) continue to work correctly and synchronize between Outlook and the Hotmail mail server.
  • Fixes for hangs and crashes experienced when sending meetings using the Hotmail Connector and when adding a new Hotmail account to an existing profile.
  • Fix for an issue where Windows Live contacts’ birthdays and anniversaries shifted by one day when synchronized with Outlook.
  • Fix for an issue that blocked synchronization of the Category property in an Outlook contact with Windows Live.

Outlook Hotmail Connector and HTTPS Support

The Outlook Hotmail Connector doesn’t support the HTTPS protocol. We are actively working on the issue with our colleagues in Windows Live.

Upgrading

Similar to previous releases, when Outlook (with the Hotmail Connector installed) is started, a prompt appears to upgrade to the latest release.

Outlook Connector installation dialog box

To manually install the Outlook Hotmail Connector, do the following:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Download Center using the applicable link for your computer.

For Outlook 2010, Office Outlook 2007, or Office Outlook 2003 32-bit:

    For Outlook 2010 64-bit:

Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.2 for Outlook 2010 64-bit

  2. Download the setup file by clicking Download next to OutlookConnector.exe, and then save the file to your computer.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.

How to verify what version you are running

Outlook 2007 and Office Outlook 2003 users

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Outlook Hotmail Connector menu, click About Outlook Hotmail Connector.
  3. The version appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version is equal to or higher than 14.0.5139.5001, the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector is installed.

Outlook 2010 users

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. Click the File tab.
  3. Click the Additional Information button and select About Outlook Hotmail Connector. If you have multiple accounts you may have to select your Hotmail account from the menu at the top.

  • Thats a great news for hotmail users. There will be lot more new features in the latest version I guess. Which will lengthen our workspace.

  • I am using Outlook 2003 on a Windows XP machine.

I have been prompted to download the latest version of the Outlook Hotmail connector in order to continue seeing my Hotmail account in Outlook. However, during the installation, I get a pop up saying "please wait while the installer finishes determining your disk space requirements". I've left the computer for hours and it still hasn't finished...

    Help please!

  • Having issues with the deinstallation of the old .msi (wouldn't work) I need a way to manually deinstall OLC.MSI.

    PLEASE -- I lost already 2 hours.

    Thanks

  • Nik,

Please try the steps in this Answers forum thread, answers.microsoft.com/.../4b2adca2-3c7e-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5.  Its sounds like the OLC.MSI is missing from the install directory.  You may still have the OLC.MSI in the Downloads folder or other location if it was removed.  If you right click on the OLC.MSI file and click Repair that should put the file back so that uninstall will work.  If it just errors then it is not the correct version of OLC.MSI.

If this does not work or you cannot find the file, please contact support to work through the setup issue, support.microsoft.com/contactus.

  • I got the same issue that officed did.  Any updates on how to actually install the update?

"Seriously?  Outlook Connector cannot install because Outlook Connector Installer is using files Outlook Connector Installer needs to update?"

  • GKL,

Try manually removing the Outlook Hotmail Connector and then download and install it.  The steps in this KB are the ones most people have used to get past the issue, support.microsoft.com/.../2551560.  If that does not work please contact product support for assistance, support.microsoft.com/contactus.

  • Hello,

I am a rookie here on the blog so please forgive my ignorance.... I recently had issues with my OUTLOOK after what  appears to be the OUTLOOK CONNECTOR upgrade installed.  My Outlook will not retrieve my messages as the box comes up asking for my password.  I set this outlook account up so many years ago I haven't a clue as to what it is...

Is there a way to retrieve an OUTLOOK password?  I am using 2003 (11.8330.8333) SP 3

    Thanks in advance

  • I have just downloaded the latest version of Outlook connector and since I did, Outlook cannot connect with hotmail.  It seems that the  accounts I use are 'not configured correctly' and when I try and change them I am told that the request failed as 'Windows Live ID could not be verified'   Come on Microsoft, rather than make life easier you have made matters worse, from the occasional glitch to full blown refusal to conenct.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I still get the same message.  Can you actually produce something that works??????

  • Help - every time I try to set up my hotmail email account, I get the message 'The installation of this package failed' or 'The Microsoft Office Hotmail connecter only works with microsoft 2010'. I tried to upgrade and it wouldn't do it, so I removed my hotmail account from Outlook 2010 and cannot get it back!!! Also, my calender on my iphone has stopped syncing with my outlook calender too. Also, whenever I load up Microsoft Office, it says I need to set it up as the default mail client. I haven't done anything since I installed it, so not sure why all this has happened. I thought it would be eay to use, but I am finding it very frustrating and cannot believe I paid a lot of money for all this hassle!!! Please advise...Thank you so much to anyone in advance who can help me.

  • This is great! BUT Why won't it sync Tasks? This is a very important feature that I need, and I am wondering if it will be available anytime soon?

  • anybody know how to change the setting so you can download more than 90 days of mail?
