  • Hi. I'm a "piler" that wants to become a "filer". Outlook periodically asks me if I want to archive my old emails and I say yes but then I can't find them.  I to into  ". . . archive1.pst" but can't open pst files.  What to do??

  • I`ve experienced problems with Autodiscover when setting up new Outlook-profiles after installing this update. Instead of pre-populating the E-mail address field with the user`s primary SMTP-address, the user`s UPN was used. This of course caused Autodiscover to fail since the UPN was not an alias on the mailboxes.

After uninstalling the latest Outlook 2007 update the issue was resolved, and the primary SMTP-address was pre-populated.

I`ve also experienced the issue with Outlook 2010, removing the latest hotfix package resolved the issue.

    The affected updates:

Description of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package: December 14, 2010

    support.microsoft.com/.../2459115

Description of the Office Outlook 2007 update: January 11, 2011

    support.microsoft.com/.../2412171

The Outlook 2007 update are released to Windows Update/WSUS, while the Outlook 2010 hotfix package must be requested afaik.

Is this a known issue, and is it due to be fixed in upcoming updates?

  • when I manually archive in outlook 2010, it archives everything even if the "Do Not Autoarchive" is checked for a folder AND the "Include items with "Do not Autoarchive" checked" is NOT checked in the manual archive set up.  Is that a bug or is there some other setting that needs to be set??

  • Outlook crashes now sporadically on multiple computers when performing searches.

    Faulting application outlook.exe, version 12.0.6550.5003, stamp 4d10fbc4, faulting module emsmdb32.dll, version 12.0.6550.5000, stamp 4ce820dd, debug? 0, fault address 0x00051fd9.

  • I uninstalled the 'bad' update.  Downloaded and installed the new update (January 11).  I still do not have archive options.  How do I fix this?

  • Hi, I've tried to uninstall KB2412171 four times and every time I re-boot, it reinstalls KB2412171 and changes the installation date for all of the other updates (that weren't touched).

What's going on here, this is so frustrating--I haven't been able to get into my Hotmail from Outlook 2007 for more than a week! I tried downloading the patch you listed above but the same problem persists...

What should I do to fix this????!!!!!

  • We are also experiencing crashing during searches in Outlook 2007 after applying this update as mentioned by mcconmw.  We can reproduce it on multiple computer with either XP SP2 or Windows 7 when searching for the word "DADE".

  • We have a custom membership DB that calls Crystal Reports so our staff can pull information, automatically populate, and send e-mails about overdue invoices, licensing/competition agreements, membership letters, and so on.  After installing this patch (KB2412171), a number of staff complained that their e-mails were being sent, but the item itself was not transitioning from the Outbox to the Sent Items folder.  They can be moved manually, but given the volume, this is not a practical long-term solution.

I've since set our WSUS server to remove the update from computers as they check in to restore Outlook 2007 to previous functionality.

the above link says the Jan 2011 released is not fixing the problem yet

  • I would like to re-confirm what janegilring has commented on. This is update causes the exact same behavior that janegilring is seeing. The update is using the UPN suffix instead of what is in the E-Mail address field. Unless the users UPN suffix matches the email address, which can't always be the case, this causes Autodiscover to fail.

This is behavior is corrected if this update is removed.

  • We have had another issue. Machines with KB2412171 are experiencing  outlook crashing. App Log reveals -

    Faulting application outlook.exe, version 12.0.6550.5003, stamp 4d10fbc4, faulting module emsmdb32.dll, version 12.0.6550.5000

I can confirm that machines running both XP SP3 and Windows 7 ent with Office 7 SP2 will, at random, have the issue with both version of the patch.

Removing all versions of the patch fixes this issue.

  • After installing the "fixed" KB2412171, we are still encountering issues with email being delivered, but, not leaving the Outbox.  Checking the date/timestamp for Outlook.exe shows 12/21/10 7:22pm, not 22-Dec-2010 03:22, as documented in the KB article.  We have removed the patch until notice of another fix is announced.

  • have removed old kb2412171 and installed NEW kb2412171, the problem persists.

have removed all kb2412171, the problem persists

have totally un-installed outlook 2007 and reinstalled the original version, but the same problems occured!

the kb2412171 keeps uploading automatically and the problems come back

HOW CAN I GET RID OF THAT ANNOYING PROBLEM?

  • The problems persists. As a couple others have stated, even after applying the new patch I continue to have problems sending email from any POP email accounts. Receive works fine but I continually get a message that Outlook cannot connect to the SMTP server. This has gone on for a couple weeks now. Any help or insight would be much appreciated!

  • I have tried to apply the update but still having same issue, outlook always swtich to HTTP mode, which resulting my EV plug-in not working and also same issue happen after remove the KB2412171, where email stuck in outlook 2007 and not sending out automatically.

    Please advise a solution.
