On Tuesday, December 14, we released an update (KB2412171) for Microsoft Outlook 2007. We have discovered several issues with the update and want to inform you about problems you might encounter and what corrective steps we recommend. As of December 16, this Outlook 2007 update has been removed from Microsoft Update.
This Outlook 2007 update was distributed via Microsoft Update. Many of you receive updates automatically and if you installed the update between Tuesday, December 14, and Thursday, December 16, it is likely that you are affected.
The three issues identified in the December 2010 update for Outlook 2007 are as follows:
If you are experiencing any of the listed issues with Outlook 2007, we recommend that you uninstall the December 2010 update by doing the following:
Uninstalling KB2412171 on Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Uninstalling KB2412171 on Windows XP
Note for Office 365 Beta customers: You do not need to uninstall this update. The listed folder switching and AutoArchive issues do not apply because Office 365 accounts are Exchange Server accounts. However, the issue with SPA when connecting to non-Exchange Server accounts that don’t support SPA does apply. In this case, turn off the SPA option by doing the following:
We apologize to our customers for not discovering these issues before releasing the update and for any inconvenience we have caused. We know that you rely on Outlook and for that reason, we thoroughly quality test every update. We failed to meet our own and our customers’ expectation for quality with this update release. We are working to fix these issues and will post a release date for those fixes, and link to download them, as soon as that information is available.
We value the trust that you place in our software, and we are actively working to resolve these issues.
The Outlook Team
FRUSTRATED. Outlook was dragging for days. Finally couldn't take it anymore and saw that my Auto Archive had been deleted. A search of "outlook 2007 auto archive missing" brought me to the solution. Delete the December 14 update. This thankfully resolved the issue. While I applaud the honesty here, this is not the first time a windows update caused issues for me and the 15 computers I monitor for our law practice. Everytime an update is pushed I GROAN. Come on Microsoft you can do better. I have very little confidence in these updates not ruining my life for a few days. Stressful to say the least. You need to do have a page where we can go immediately to address update issues.
So that's what happened to my GMAIL account.......Took me 3 days to figure out that Outlook wasn't passing on my GMAIL emails......Shoddy work Microsoft....You can do better than this.....Its a "***" when the users have to do "Quality Control".....
Thanks. Was wondering why my IMAP connections were so slow and disconnecting. Seems to be helping
Thank you for the heads up. Unfortunately, when attempting to uninstall patch KB2412171, I get an error message 'The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. 'OK' ' Now what, I can not uninstall the broken patch. Windows Vista with Office 2007. Any other options other than (A) waiting for a corrective patch, or (B) re installing Office?
Thanks for your honesty and the fix.
No probs, your system is the best in the world, honesty makes it better, we are all human. Yay, we are not perfect, but brilliant.
Thansk for that but would it not have been better to release an emergency update to remove KB 2412171?? On my Windows 7 system update KB 2412171 actually installed on December 17.
I had to figure out the cause of this Outlook 2007 update on my own. Why didn't MS send out notifications to end users. Poor performance on MS part!
THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!!!!
I'm still having the error after following the instructions. I deleted the upgrade, then rebooted my pc. Still did not help!
I had to do a system restore to December 14th on one computer and December 16th on another computer. Nothing that MS team recommended worked for me.
I have the same problem as Lenny ~ Help! "the update is in my list of updates in the review but it instructs me to click on uninstall which takes me to another screen which does not list the update so i can not delete it. this is killing my productivity - very upset."
is it that hard to make update that automatically uninstalls this KB2412171, it is not, but still you wont do it
I followed the directions to remove the KB2412171. I still cannot receive nor send emails. Help anyone?
How about doing a bit of testing before foisting a crock of garbage on millions of people? How many millions of man hours have been wasted by users on this?
