After several months of beta testing, Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 has officially been released as a replacement for Outlook Connector 12. Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010.
If you have been using Outlook Connector 12.1, you already know that it enables you to manage your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail messages, calendar, and contacts from within Outlook.
Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 introduces several improvements. For example, you might notice after upgrading that the connection to Hotmail is more reliable than before, and issues such as blank messages being synchronized to Outlook have been fixed.
With Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 and Outlook 2010, you see these additional benefits:
To install Outlook Hotmail Connector, whether you have an older version of Outlook Connector already installed, or you are a new user, do the following:
1. Go to the Microsoft Download Center at one of the following locations.
For Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 (32-bit): Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 32-bit
For Outlook 2010 (64-bit): Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 for Outlook 2010 64-bit
2. Download the setup file by clicking Download next to OutlookConnector.exe, and then save the file to your hard disk.
3. In the folder where you saved the installer, double-click OutlookConnector.exe to start the setup program.
4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen to complete the installation.
The version number of the new Outlook Hotmail Connector is 14.0.4760.1000.
If you are using Outlook Connector 12.1, you can directly install Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 without uninstalling the 12.1 version.
We have seen reports of problems with the auto-upgrade mechanism used to install the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. Users of Outlook Connector 12.1 were prompted to run the Outlook Hotmail Connector auto-upgrade, but were prompted to upgrade again after they completed the setup process and then restarted Outlook.
This is caused by an issue with the Outlook Connector 12.1 auto-upgrade software.
Due to this issue, we have temporarily turned off all auto-upgrade prompts. Until further notice, you can continue using Outlook Connector 12.1, or you can upgrade manually to Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 — in both cases, Outlook successfully synchronizes with your Windows Live Hotmail Inbox.
Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 users:
1. Open Outlook.
2. Click Outlook Hotmail Connector, and then click About Outlook Hotmail Connector.
3. The version appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version number is equal to or greater than 14.0.4760.1000, you have successfully installed Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.
Outlook 2010 users:
2. Click the File tab.
3. Under Account Information, click the down arrow, and then select your Hotmail account:
4. Click Additional Information, and then click About Outlook Hotmail Connector.
The version number appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version number is equal to or greater than 14.0.4760.1000, you have successfully installed Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.
On behalf of the entire Outlook Hotmail Connector team, thanks for trying the new Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.

@Greg - If you are running into the autoupgrade prompt, please shut down Outlook and install the OLC 14 manually from the following locations. For Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 (32-bit): www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx For Outlook 2010 (64-bit): www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx Alessio Roic, Outlook Program Manager
When will Microsoft eventually support the synchronization of tasks? There is task support in Hotmail, there is task support in Outlook and there is Outlook Hotmail Connector. It's a shame that the synchronization does not work. There is no task synchronization at Gmail. Microsoft could have an advantage over google with that support .Synchronize your whole life between your pc, the browser and the phone, just by signing in with your Live ID - that would be my dream.
I'm also getting the 4202 error for my msn.com account, Outlook 2010 x64, English: Task 'MSN' reported error (0x80004005) : 'There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account is configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web. Error: 4202. '
How can I sync my subfolders? or can you only still sync the Inbox?
When will the 64 bit version of the Outlook Social Connector be released?
Help! I have installed latest version of the connector ie 14.0.4760.1000 onto Outlook 2003 Professional Edition. Earlier versions of the connector worked fine. However, server status never gets beyond "connecting.." Detailed report says: Outlook Hotmail Connector Version 14.0.4760.1000 Account: firstname.lastname@example.org Signed in successfully at 25/06/2010 12:30:00 Mail: Calendar: Contacts: Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and creating a new mail profile. Note I am in the UK, but use an msn.com email address. Ideas? Thanks
I can't get the Outlook Hotmail Connector 32-bit to install. It's trying to find the OLC.MSI file and says it can't. When I tried downloading an OLC.MSI file into the location it wants - it says the OLC is an old version. It then gives me an Error 2869. I've uninstalled Office 2007 as it's a piece of crap and re-installed Office 2003. I even ran the Mr Fixit program - deleted every instance I could find for Office or the Connector both in file and registries. Reinstalled Office 2003 with no problems but Connector does not install. What's the deal?
I have Outlook Connector 12.0.6423.1000 and a PC with Vista 64 and Outlook 2003. I see that there is an updated Outlook Connector 14 for 32-bit and one for Outlook 2010. Should I change anything with my set up or leave it as is? If I should update Connector, please advise which one to download.
Got new Opti 980 from Dell with Win 7 Ultimate SP1 X64 and a bunch of other crap installed. Installed Office Pro Plus 2010 X86. Create Outlook profile with only Hwinvotmail. Outlook crashes instantly on startup.
Format and reinstall Win 7 Enterprise SP1 X64, then Office Pro Plus 2010 X86 and the hotmail connector. Virgin install with nothing else. Create profile with only Hotmail. Outlook crashes instantly on startup.
Office Pro Plus 2010 - 14.0.4763.1000
Office Outlook Connector - 14.0.5118.5000
Same versions working fine on Win 7 Ent SP1 X86. GRRRR....
Please fix or do somefink!
I have windows vista. My outlook told me to upgrade and walked me through the steps. Now I can open my outlook, but when I click on my hotmail folders it says 'Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occured.MAPI was unable to load the information service msncon.dll. Be sure the service correctly installed and configured. I don't know what that means or what to do.
From previous reports of that error it usually means the Outlook Connector is not fully installed.
1. Close Outlook.
2. Go to Control Panel >> Programs and Features and uninstall “Microsoft Office Outlook Connector”
3. Install the appropriate Outlook Connector that matches your version of Outlook:
Outlook 2010 64-bit: download.microsoft.com/.../OutlookConnector.exe
4. Once the installation is completed you will have version 14.0.5139.5001 installed.
I'm having the auto upgrade issue on my workstation. I have completely removed the outlook hotmail connector and then reinstalled but it continually prompts me to upgrade my version of the outlook hotmail connector within outlook. When I follow the prompts and it downloads the software all I am able to do is to repair or remove the previous version which is an indication that I have manually downloaded and installed the correct version of the outlook hotmail connector.
This problem only just started happening yesterday 12-May-2011. Any assistance would be great!
It might be worth noting that the manually downloaded file of the outlook hotmail connector reads version 14.0.4730.1010
The programs and features sees the outlook hotmail connector as version 14.0.5118.5000
And the digital signature in the file reads Saturday, 10 July 2010 1:58:56 PM
I just found the answer to our problems. What everyone needs is the 14.2 version of the connector. The link can be found below. It looks like maybe the server I kept getting sent to had the older version cached which was 14.1 and not the new 14.2
