After several months of beta testing, Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 has officially been released as a replacement for Outlook Connector 12. Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010.
If you have been using Outlook Connector 12.1, you already know that it enables you to manage your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail messages, calendar, and contacts from within Outlook.
Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 introduces several improvements. For example, you might notice after upgrading that the connection to Hotmail is more reliable than before, and issues such as blank messages being synchronized to Outlook have been fixed.
With Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 and Outlook 2010, you see these additional benefits:
To install Outlook Hotmail Connector, whether you have an older version of Outlook Connector already installed, or you are a new user, do the following:
1. Go to the Microsoft Download Center at one of the following locations.
For Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 (32-bit): Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 32-bit
For Outlook 2010 (64-bit): Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 for Outlook 2010 64-bit
2. Download the setup file by clicking Download next to OutlookConnector.exe, and then save the file to your hard disk.
3. In the folder where you saved the installer, double-click OutlookConnector.exe to start the setup program.
4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen to complete the installation.
The version number of the new Outlook Hotmail Connector is 14.0.4760.1000.
If you are using Outlook Connector 12.1, you can directly install Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 without uninstalling the 12.1 version.
We have seen reports of problems with the auto-upgrade mechanism used to install the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector. Users of Outlook Connector 12.1 were prompted to run the Outlook Hotmail Connector auto-upgrade, but were prompted to upgrade again after they completed the setup process and then restarted Outlook.
This is caused by an issue with the Outlook Connector 12.1 auto-upgrade software.
Due to this issue, we have temporarily turned off all auto-upgrade prompts. Until further notice, you can continue using Outlook Connector 12.1, or you can upgrade manually to Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 — in both cases, Outlook successfully synchronizes with your Windows Live Hotmail Inbox.
Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 users:
1. Open Outlook.
2. Click Outlook Hotmail Connector, and then click About Outlook Hotmail Connector.
3. The version appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version number is equal to or greater than 14.0.4760.1000, you have successfully installed Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.
Outlook 2010 users:
2. Click the File tab.
3. Under Account Information, click the down arrow, and then select your Hotmail account:
4. Click Additional Information, and then click About Outlook Hotmail Connector.
The version number appears in the About Outlook Hotmail Connector dialog box. If the version number is equal to or greater than 14.0.4760.1000, you have successfully installed Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.
On behalf of the entire Outlook Hotmail Connector team, thanks for trying the new Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0.

Hi, I just wanted to inform you that, apparently, users of localized versions of Outlook *must* install the localized version of the connector, otherwise it won't work. For example, I installed the english (default) version of the connector on my french Outlook, and although the setup works fine, I had errors running Outlook afterwards, I had to remove completely the connector. Trying to reinstall the english version was not good either, I had to install the french version of the connector.
I think this was not the case with the previous connector version (12.x) because I have another installation where the Connector is english, and Outlook is french.
Thanks for maintaining compatibility with Outlook 2003. On MSDN, I see a 14 MB Outlook *Connector Pack* which apparently includes the Outlook Hotmail Connector as well as the Outlook Social Connector. Outlook 2010 already includes the Social Connector AFAIK. When will the social connector be available on Download Center for Outlook 2007/2003? Or will the Connector Pack be made available on Download Center?

Will there be a reason to use Outlook Hotmail Connector when Hotmail Wave 4 appears with activesync support? I could then just add the Hotmail account as I would any exchange account directly in Outlook.

must have been a corrupted download, after clearing browser cache and downloading again it got installed
Ugh - After having spent all day yesterday trying to install, reinstall, reinstall, reinstall, search for solutions, try different solutions... I'm still unable to log-in to hotmail or other Pop3 accounts via Outlook Connector. I use Outlook 2007 on a Vista machine. I've downloaded the correct upgrade but it's still not working. Send/Receive just hangs and log-in to different hotmail accounts is intermittent, at best. After viewing other tech support groups, it's clear this release of Outlook Connector 14 is causing lots of problems, not just the looped installation.
I've found the new 14.0 connector totally unusable - crashes Outlook 2010 (32 bit) every few minutes. Had to remove the hotmail connection from my profile and then Outlook 2010 is stable again. Prior connector with Outlook 2007 on same machine was extremely stable. Have sent in 10+ crash reports so hoping someone is looking at this. BTW - Outlook should at least be designed such that when a connector or add-in like this fails, it doesn't bring down all of Outlook.
I can not get connected to http://www.hotmail.fr
what shall I do ?
Still crippled by the upgrade to OLC 14. Still losing hours of productivity time due to this mandatory update. I was able to get my email to download from Hotmail and other POP3 accounts one time. However, Outlook 2007 continues to hang durning Send/Receive.
Another problem has emerged since OLC 14 upgrade: Whenever I exit Outlook, the program closes but continues to run in the background. I have to force processes to end via Task Manager. Otherwise, Outlook will not reopen.
