Update: We have heard that some Microsoft Outlook 2010 Beta users are experiencing crashes when trying to use the new Outlook Social Connector (OSC) Beta (February Update) that was released today along with the LinkedIn Provider for Outlook. The OSC that was included with the Outlook 2010 Beta must be uninstalled before installing the new OSC Beta (February Update). After the February OSC update is installed, the LinkedIn Provider for Outlook can then be installed. This information is included on our Download Center page for the OSC Beta (February Update). If you have installed the OSC Beta (February Update) and Outlook is crashing, follow the steps outlined on this page. As a reminder, only 32-bit Outlook is supported right now. 64-bit support for the OSC will be available soon.

In November 2009, we announced both the beta of Microsoft Office 2010 as well as the Outlook Social Connector. The Outlook Social Connector brings together communications history, contact information, and professional and social networking information into the Outlook experience.
We are continuing to deliver on that vision today with two new announcements. First, we’re proud to announce the public beta of LinkedIn for Outlook, which will enable our millions of Office 2010 Beta users to connect the OSC to a public network for the first time. Second, we're excited to announce partnerships with Facebook — the most popular social Web site in the world, and MySpace — a leading social platform connecting people through expression, content, and culture.
LinkedIn for Outlook brings together the most popular professional network with the world’s leading professional Inbox. Here are some of the things you can do today by downloading the beta:
We are proud to continue partnering with LinkedIn and we want to congratulate them on a job well done. With this beta, our customers are able to stay connected to their network without leaving the Outlook Inbox.
Our vision for Outlook (and the OSC) is to provide a communications hub that is vital to both professional and personal communications; by integrating with both Facebook and MySpace, Outlook 2010 enables you to connect not only to co-workers and colleagues, but with all of your friends and family within your Outlook Inbox.
Facebook for Outlook
You can view friends’ activities, photos, and status updates within Outlook — as well as grow your network by adding friends from the same view. Both Facebook for Outlook and MySpace for Outlook will be available later this year as our official release of Office 2010 approaches.
Finally, its important to mention that with multiple professional and social networks available for the Outlook Social Connector, the design of the OSC is such that your privacy and permissions settings on each of the networks you use are represented and respected within this experience. For example, if your profile photo and job title are publicly listed on a given network, then OSC users will see your photo and job title when receiving an e-mail from you (if they use that same network). Similarly, if you choose to restrict profile access on a given network, the OSC will respect that privacy. The goal of the OSC is not to create another social network or set of privacy settings for you to manage, but rather to bring the networks you already value and use to the Outlook experience.
To recap, here is what you can do today to get started with the Outlook Social Connector.
Note To use LinkedIn for Outlook requires the latest version of the Outlook Social Connector, which supports the 32-bit English version of the official Microsoft Office 2010 Beta. The beta of the Outlook Social Connector is provided as-is, is subject to change without notice, and does not include formal product support from Microsoft.
We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone with LinkedIn and to welcome both Facebook and MySpace to the Outlook Social Connector ecosystem. Stay tuned to this blog for more information from the Outlook team as we get closer to the launch of Office 2010!

@Brian, Are you using the 32 or 64bit version of Outlook 2010? (Only the 32bit version is currently supported) - gotta ask. If so, did you follow these steps:
1. Install Office 2010 32bit
2. Uninstall the Social Adapter that comes with it (NOTE: there are a few posts above outlining this process)
3. Verify that it is no longer installed. (Original connector is not listed in the Add/Remove programs.)
4. Install the new social adapter. (Download link is above)
5. Install the linkedin connector (Download Link is above)
6. Install the MySpace Connector (Download Link is in another post)
7. Launch Outlook - configure connectors when prompted.
Oop... #3 above: The original Social Connector does not show up in the Add/Remove programs section, you will have to verify that it is gone in the Add-in's section in Outlook.
@Keith. I followed all the instructions to the letter including requirements.
@Keith: Problem sorted. It turns out the installer did not create a registry key named "ddb0922fc50b8d42be5a821ede840761" under any of my profiles. I created it manually and added a value I found on slipstick. Once I opened outlook it added another entry to that registry key and it started working. Guess it's just an installer bug.
Ack. Now that it's in and working I see that it has miles and miles to go before it is actually useful. One basic feature you might consider is making it so that it links a specific account to a specific contact in your contacts folder. It needs to be able to cross-reference contacts to know that a person using a specific mail account on linked is the same person that might send me an email from another account.
hello i'm kindly appreciating you to help me in installing my personal yahoo mail in outlook 2007 please advise how to instal steps by step and the required software a waiting your reply
@Brian, Yes, I agree! Currently the LinkedIn connector creates a new contact group and adds all of your linked in contacts there. The problem is, it only links via the email address, it would be nice if it could also link by name (at least make suggestions for other possible relationships).
@Sally, Do you know where you are? :)
Hello Running Win 7 Ultimate (Multi-Language, primary language is German), with installed Outlook 2010 Beta and parallel installations of Office 2003 (German)except Outlook (can only be installed once) and Office 2010 Beta (German). Also installed Vision and Project 2010 Beta. Using Outlook with Exchange 2003 and hotmail connector beta for connection to hotmail-account. All programs are running completely problem-free (nice job!). When installing OSC beta as described (uninstalled feature in Office 2010 installation, reboot, then install OSC Beta), then install Linkedin beta and then start Outlook 2010, I get "Error opening" followed by chinese signs - see also blogs.msdn.com/.../help-with-updating-the-outlook-social-connector-in-the-outlook-2010-beta.aspx. Clicking on OK, Outlook works fine, but no connector (not even the empty one I get with regular install of Office 2010). Did full uninstall and reinstall of everything, same error. Did full install with UAC set to lowest level, same error. Best regards - keep up the good work! Marc
@Mark, I'm going to have to let Microsoft or One of the other testers wtih more experience with multi-lingual setups assist with that one! :)
Hi Michael Affronti [MSFT], Did you guys resolved @mo's Problem. I am facing the same issue. I downloaded the Outlook 2007 Social Connector as well as Linkedin for outlook, but I after I enter the details of user Id and password I got message invalid user name and password.
What might I be missing over here.
I downloaded Social Media connector and I was unable to open Outlook 2010 (Beta). I removed Social Media Connector by uninstalling the it through Add or Remove Programs of Control Panel. It did not work. I tried to disable Com In it by starting Outlook 2010 in safe mode. It would show that it was diabled but when I restart Outlook 2010, it would be active and will not allow Outlook 2010 to start. I then identified the location of the file / connector which is at /programs/microsoft/office14/Social Media connector.dll. I selected this file here and then pressed right click of the mouse. When I selected delete file, it asked me for permission. When I said OK, Social Media connector.dll was deleted. After deleting this file / application, I am able to start Outlook 2010.
I've managed to make them work together, after some time playing with it. I had crashes like everyone at first; what I've done was uninstall osc and the linkedin and myspace connectors via Programs and Features; then, in Office 2010 setup program, uninstalled social connector found under Microsoft Outlook. Installed the new versions again... and everything works fine, just like in Win 7 32bit! Note: I have an exchange mail account - so I can confirm that the connectors works fine under this "corporate" configuration, too. Cheers
Just a Note: You CAN run this on Windows XP, Vista and 7 64bit. What you CANNOT do, (Currently) is run this on OFFICE 2010 beta 64bit. A 64bit OS can run 32bit applications, a 32bit OS cannot run a 64bit Application. (64bit applications, for the average PC user, are relatively new. That is probably a MAJOR reason that this Beta is being developed for the 32bit version first.) In a nutshell, as long as you are running the 32bit version of Office 2003, 2007 or 2010 - this should work for you. lol... as long as you are running one of the above versions of Office (32bit), you could probably get this to work on that God awful Windows ME... hehe...
When I try to connect with the LinkedIn connector, I get a UN/PW error, despite the same credentials working to log into the site. Any ideas?
