Q&A 2: Showing Tasks from PSTs in the To-Do Bar

More Q&A:

How to make the To-Do Bar show tasks from an Archive

“Is there any way to get the To-Do Bar to also look at archived email? Because of our corporate policy on InBox size, I have to archive my emails daily. When the emails with flags are archived, they disappear off the To-Do Bar.”

Short answer: Yes!

To show flagged mail and tasks from an archived folder, all you need to do is check a box in the properties dialog. Here are the steps:

1. Right click on the name of your archive, (in the picture below, the archive is named “StuffForToDoBar”), and select ‘Properties for “<name of your archive>...”’

2. In the dialog that appears, check the box next to “Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To-Do Bar”

Viola! Tasks and flagged mail from your archive appear in the To-Do Bar!

Note: We are still working on full fidelity support for the Windows Live Hotmail Connector.

  • Liveside.net had a post just these days on a new Connector version. I wrote a huge bug list under that blog posting on Liveside, would be great if you would take a look at it and tried to address the issues there. Some of them are bad, i.e. permanent data loss.

  • Hi davidacoder, Thank you for the bug list. We are investigating the issues you reported. Jared Brown [MSFT]

  • Thanks, and excellent. By the way, is the Outlook team in charge of the connector? So is this blog also the best channel to get in touch with the connector team? What about creating a connect.microsoft.com place for it? Plus, I have another one: pictures on contacts don't get synced. I think in general that if for whatever reason you cannot sync everything and have to leave some fields out, it just is super important to let users know and not just have a default where that data gets lost. With all that being said, I love the Connector and cannot wait to get my hands on an update!! And if you need another hard core beta tester, you get reach me at my login name here @hotmail.com ;) Just trying :)

  • This is a very useful article, but I'm in a slightly different situation.

I would like the tasks in an additional mailbox to show up as well in my To-do bar. The mailbox is a collaboration mailbox which is on the same Exchange 2007 server as my personal mailbox.

However there's no “Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To-Do Bar” - check box in the "mailbox properties" dialog. How could I set this up?

  • Thanks for introducing this option. Most helpful. But when I tried to use it, the line that is supposed to show "Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To Do Bar" with the check box does not appear below the "Microsoft Exchange Views" line. I must not have an update of some kind. How do I get it? Thanks. Best, DOW

  • I also do not have a “Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To-Do Bar” - check box in the "mailbox properties" dialog. What is the cause for this?.. more importantly ... how can i get it back to list my appointments in the to do bar?

  • The check box is also missing in my Outlook :-(

  • Hi Have recently migrated from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007, and I can't get my reminders and tasks seen in the To Do Bar ! Have checked the box next to “Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To-Do Bar” in the folder Properties, clicked on OK and nothing happened... Every time I start Outlook I get the following error messages: In a "baloon" that disappears after a few seconds: "There was a problem reading one or more of your reminders, some reminders may not appear" And in the To Do Bar: "The operation failed, an object could not be found " FYI, I'm using a POP mailbox as and have also tried to no avail the suggestions in Microsoft article ID 286166 Can you please help? Thanks Ron Kindly send copy to: rmontdor@gmail.com

  • Ron, You might consider trying one or both of the following commandline switches: /resettodobar and /cleanreminders. For more on commandline switches and how to use them, see: office.microsoft.com/.../HP012185891033.aspx Hope that helps,

    Melissa

  • Hi Melissa Thanks for your reply, well appreciated I followed your advice and applied the commandline switches /resettodobar and /cleanreminders. Unfortunately though the problem persists, no reminders and no tasks in the To Do Bar, and the two error messages keep on coming back ... This is very frustrating as even when I go to View and click on 'Reminders Window', the window is all empty... Is there any Outlook checklist to see if something is wrong with the configuration? What would you suggest? Thanks, Ron

  • Hi Melissa I managed to solve the problem by deleting the email account, and thereafter have reinstalled it again using the account's .pst file Looks like Outlook 2007 has corrupted the Outlook 2003 old account during the upgrade process to Office 2007... This could possibly be a bug that you may want to check In any case problem now solved Thanks, Ron
