This week, Microsoft released a new beta of an add-in that allows people to access Windows Live Hotmail in Outlook and best of all, it’s free! It’s called the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector. If you’re familiar with Windows Live Hotmail’s history, you may have heard of this add-in before. It used to require a subscription but with the new Windows Live Hotmail we’re now able to offer it free (for most features). Every Hotmail customer can now take advantage of some of the best features Outlook has to offer, like Offline access, Categorization, Flagging, Instant Search, Electronic Business Cards, the To-Do Bar… the list goes on and on.
In addition to the new Ajax user interface that allows for richer capabilities on the web, Windows Live Hotmail includes a new protocol which the Outlook Connector uses to communicate with the service. The new protocol is called Delta Sync and is very efficient, so your experience using the connector should be faster too. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
You probably noticed that the new beta is free for most features. It synchronizes Hotmail e-mail (including all your folders) and contacts for free, but still requires a paid subscription to MSN Premium, Office Live Essentials or Office Live Premium to synchronize calendars, tasks and notes.
With the new Outlook Connector beta, you can get the most of Windows Live Hotmail and Microsoft Office Outlook, so Download it Today!

Hello Fordo and all the OC solutions seekers in this blog. Please, the first one of us that finds the right door to knock, share its link. I keep on pushing requests to Live Hotmail Plus Support Team, Office Live Team and Classic Office Support pages. I'll try also on Usenet MS groups.
But there's nothing an MVP can do but send us to a Customer Care that can reset our ill acccounts... Good Luck! Stefania
Hello everyone and Hello Jared, It's five 'o clock in the morning here, not so far from Venice (Italy). My OC Beta started unaspectedly to (testually): "Downloading Full Items in Inbox: (44 of 3249)". Oh What a happiness!!! I love you MS!! For days and days error 3206 persecuted my quiet use of Outlook.... My last action, I don't know if this is the real source of this miracle but sure the most probable (having mailed unsuccesfully any kind of Customer Care at MS), has been to call for an help here: support.microsoft.com/.../survey.aspx I explained to them everything reporting the OC Beta logs and selecting "Other" as software involved in my request. My Request Subject: Outlook Connector Nightmare ;-) Ciao Stefania
Hi... I'm having a problem with rules I'm creating from my office live accounts in outlook 2007. I have set up rules to automatically direct specific emails to certain folders in my main outlook Inbox. This works fine when run manually, but will not automatically process the new emails as they arrive. Any suggestions? spriteyone@msn.com
I'm also getting the "error synchronizing your mail account." History: I have a paid MSN account and have been using connector with Outlook 2003 without problems since earlier this year. I recently downloaded the MS Office 2007 trial, including Outlook 2007, along with the new connector. Since installing Outlook 07 and the new connector, I can't get my MSN mail to sync with Outlook. I tried a couple of things: 1) I uninstalled the 2007 connector and switched back to the Outlook 2003 connector (which is supposed to work with OL 2007, and is not beta) 2) Even though I had no reason to believe it would make any difference, I decided to switch from "classic" MSN (web-based) to Windows Live. Neither of these worked. Anyone have any more ideas? letitia_king@msn.com
Started using Outlook Connector Beta with Outlook 2003 and Live Hotmail to read emails. Worked satisfactorily for a while and then about a week or so ago stopped working, apparently because a subscription is required. The blurb says it should work without a subscription and it used to work. What has changed? The Detailed Report gives the following information. Outlook Connector Version 12.0.4518.1047 Account: nigeltopham@hotmail.com Signed in successfully at 21/07/2007 11:19:37 Mail: Error at 11:20. Calendar: Error at 11:20. Contacts: Last successfully refreshed at 11:20. Errors : Time: 21/07/2007 11:19:59
Error in Mail
Network operation failed Time: 21/07/2007 11:20:01
Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers.
I'm getting no synchronization with the 3206 error also. Anyone fixed this or is it time for me to go back to v1?
For all those experiencing the dreaded 5102 or 3206 errors and unable to use the "new" Outlook Connector, I noticed on the download page that MS is offering the older version. I uninstalled the "new" one and re-installed the 11/2006 version on Outlook 2003 and I can now check my email again after nearly a week in browser email hell. I was just about to dump Hotmail and use my ISP.... Here's the download if you want to try it: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx
THANKS Stefania for the post!! After giving up on it for a while, I came back here and noticed yours was working. I tried it today and magically it worked...don't know how or why. Thanks for the post.
Hi everyone I'm using connector beta on Outlook 2007. But I have a big problem. My Live Mail folder is not syncing with outlook. A error says that "Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription Please sign up at blablabla" Is Live Mail Plus required for using this tool? Thanks,
Burak
Hi all, My Connector was working fine with OL 2003, but since a couple of days it has stopped syncing and gives this error message:
"Error: 4102. Client. Error parsing sync request... " Anyone has any ideas? I've tried restarting OL many times.
okay...my synhing error was resolved awhile ago without any effort on my part (probably some back-end server based issue) and I continued using the connector until 2 weeks ago when it stopped syncing with the following error: Time: 8/1/2007 1:15:07 PM
There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account has been configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web.
Error: 4301. Client. Number of objects in the request is over the limit. I'm not sure what objects it's referring to but if anyone has any idea it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I signed up with Hotmail Plus. Very very poor.
All the sync allows you todo is Edit your Hotmail Contacts and View emails within outlook. You cannot:
1. Sync your outlook calendar with MSN Calendar
2. Sync your contacts between your private folder and hotmail folder
3. Cannot Sync Tasks or Notes. Microsoft is very behind the times. The best solution is something like atmail that syncs outlook and the web beautifully.
Sometime after July 30th, the Outlook connector beta stopped working. I get the following error: Signed in successfully at 8/2/2007 9:25:01 PM Mail: Last successfully refreshed at 9:26 PM. Calendar: Last successfully refreshed at 9:26 PM. Contacts: Last successfully refreshed at 9:26 PM. Errors : Time: 8/2/2007 9:25:05 PM
Error: 4104. I have an MSN Premium account and Windows Live Mail work correctly. I do get RSS items - just no mail at all. Any ideas?
I downloaded the latest version.
Yet all I get is this: Outlook Connector Version 12.0.4518.1047 Account: XXX@hotmail.com Signed in successfully at 04/08/2007 14:52:56 Mail: Calendar: Contacts: Errors : Time: 04/08/2007 14:52:58 Error in Mail Network operation failed Time: 04/08/2007 14:53:02 Error in Mail Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers. Time: 04/08/2007 14:53:03 Error in Calendar Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers. Time: 04/08/2007 14:53:21 Error in Mail Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers. How can I fix it? Thanks.
Robbie asked a question back on July 15th and I was hoping to find an answer to it. While the connector works great (using Vista & Outlook 2007), when new mail arrives with my MS Custom Domain Live Mail, I do not receive any notification via sound, desktop, etc. What is the solution to this? I appreciate any help.
