  • I wanted to follow up on a couple of questions from our audience the other day:

    Q: How do I avoid the busy page of templates when I start Excel, and just get a blank worksheet instead?

    A: Click "File" > "Options," and under "Start up options," uncheck the "Show the Start screen when this application starts" box. The next time you start Excel, you'll get just a blank worksheet.

    Q: What are the new functions in Excel 2013?

    A: Here's a list for you. Most are completely new, and some are refinements of existing functions. For example, FLOOR.MATH adds an optional argument (mode, which changes the direction for rounding negative numbers) that FLOOR doesn't have. Anyway, here's the list:
