New Excel Developer Roadmap on MSDN

This blog post is brought to you by Allison Bokone a technical writer for Excel.

With the wide variety of solutions available for automating, customizing, and extending Excel, it can be hard to determine which technology to use. And even if you know which solution you want, it can be hard to find all of the related documentation you need to get the job done.

That’s why we’ve created the Excel Developer Roadmap. The Excel Developer Roadmap gives you an overview of the available Excel-related development options, and surfaces links to the applicable help content – whether that help is on MSDN, TechNet, or Office.com. As new help articles are published, the roadmap will be updated to reflect the most current guidance.

We have also updated the Excel Developer Center with Excel 2010 content. The Excel Developer Center contains links and feeds to the latest help content, blog posts, and community content.

We welcome your comments or questions. You can send feedback about the Excel Developer Roadmap and Excel Developer Center to docthis@microsoft.com.

  • It's pretty silly to have animation on the Roadmap - it doesn't give you time to read the individual sections - surely you can't believe that Excel developers can't manage to cycle through the menus on their own!

And it's a roadmap that only tells you how far you've already travelled - more properly, a roadmap should contain a plan for the future

  • I hope that the road map will show examples of how to call WSS 3.0 (2007) or SharePoint Foundation (2010) Web Services from VBA including filtering the results by cell or range values. This area looks to me as abandoned.

  • Can the MSExcel not have statistical facility like Minitab or JMP software?

  • Allison,

It looks good to me :-)Personally I have no issues with the animation as we can stop/start it whenever we want.

Nice to have a face on You :-)

    All the best,

    Dennis

  • It is very Good article

  • Thanks for the comments. Zeev - I've passed your content suggestions on to one of the SharePoint writers.
