Updated! Office Web Apps Technical Preview expanding

From the Office Web Apps Blog:

About a month ago I wrote about the Technical Preview on Windows Live. Since then we’ve seen a lot of interest in Office Web Apps and received numerous requests from people wanting to try them out. To make this possible, we are opening up the Technical Preview and inviting more people to try out the Office Web Apps.

For a limited time, you can sign-up for a Technical Preview account here (if you are already a part of the technical preview, this link will generate an error): http://skydrive.live.com/acceptpreview.aspx/.documents?aobrp=browse.

The features in this expanded Technical Preview are the same as the initial preview; however, during the preview (and beyond) you can expect to see new functionality added over time. Thanks for helping us make Office Web Apps even better!

  • Hi,

I've got the Office 2010 Tech Preview but no access to Web Apps...however the link above gives me an error.

I'm keen to get a look at Web Apps so any ideas would be appreciated :-)

    Cheers

  • What's the error that you are seeing?

  • I accepted the terms and can access PowerPoint and Excel, but Word and OneNote each show a "Coming Soon" page with a link to check for updates that doesnt'appear to check for updates. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • I'm getting an odd error as well: "That item seems to be missing" - I'm not already signed up for the preview.

  • So I know this is unrelated to the post, but I am on the verge of switching back to Excel 2003. I have to search and sift through multiple selected cells. When I highlight them, the highlight color is so close to white that when you are doing find, you can rarely see which cell is white. There are suggestions online about adjusting your monitor or Windows themes under the Appearance tab in Display Properties, but why can't Excel have an option to change the highlighting color. Also I USED TO be able to use white text, so it would not show up when printed, but when I highlighted the white text I could EASILY read it. Now it is almost impossible to read, and I do not know what I can do. Any help?

  • Loretta: the "coming soon" message appears when trying to Edit in Word because that functionality isn't available yet.  You can, however, View documents just fine.

  • I tried and I love it. I have tried word, excel and powepoint. I uploaded files from Office 2007 and they all showed up with no problems. Even Excel files with Pivot tables showed up. Now, I can't wait for me to be able to sync files with the desktop and edit them.

  • Lance: I understand your pain, and wrote a blog post about it here:

Bottom line: 2010 fixes the issue you're seeing, tied back to the system color for selection, but there isn't a way to change it in 2007 :/
